HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY NEW MONTH and HAPPY NEW MOON!
I hope everyone has a good December and holiday season. A new moon begins the month and another new moon will end the month (and the year)!
On Thanksgiving night, my region had a weak earthquake. People felt the shaking, but no damage was done. It wasn't a big deal, except that folks were talking about how distressed the dogs, cats, and wildlife were before, during, and after the quake. We have small quakes once in a while, and nobody knows why this particular quake disturbed the animals so much. The raccoons on my patch were goofy, running around on the roof, barking, and trying to get in the house. One woman said the ducks on her lake raised a loud ruckus. Lots of folks said their dogs behaved strangely. Many people had animal stories.
We had Arctic cold move in yesterday, and the raccoons have now begun their hibernation (torpor).
Love and hugs to everyone.
Thinking of you all on the left of the country. Here in the south-east it's blowing a hooley, and we are only on a yellow warning ... can only imagine how the really bad areas are faring. Do take care and stay safe.
Ditto from me, hope everyone is OK.
It was grandson Sam's passing out parade yesterday, at HMS Raleigh. My daughter in law sent me lots of pictures and video clips and I had a lovely message from Sam himself. Not ashamed to say that I shed quite a few tears. Even now, when typing this.
HEATHER Happy tears I am sure. Our lovely postie's son passed out from Raleigh last year and we had to smile as he said he was the one in floods of tears not Mum as she hard as nails!!! He was going to do something with warfare but changed his mind and has gone down the submariner route!!!! We know no more as Raymond has been taken off our route which we are all very disappointed about. We last saw him in his van at Dochgarrroch.
I haven't been online, and I've just seen the warnings for Storm Darragh. I fervently hope all my friends are okay with no damage to your homes. Love, hugs, and protection to all of you.
I'll be back later with replies and the new thread. Be safe, all.
Passing out here means actually losing consciousness. I'm sure that's not what happened there! Does it mean graduating (as from college)?
UK and other parts of the world getting much more extrreme weather. I certainly don't remember such storms growing up.
Yes, ANNETTE - it means that they have successfully completed their basic training to become Navy sailors. They then go on to whatever further training they have chosen . In Sam's case, he is going to Portsmouth to start his training in Aviation Engineering. At least, I think that is what it is called.... His Dad did the same in the Royal Air Force.
Wind and rain were very noisy last night, but we are very much on the edge of the edge of the storm system. Variable today but no problems for OH driving to Dumfries.
J had his colonoscopy - first on the list – this morning. They tried to insert a canula for sedation but after three theatre staff tried and failed (like mother like son) the surgeon said he would do it himself – and also failed! They had a discussion about it and eventually decided to give him gas and air instead! They did a polypectomy and have sent just one polyp to the lab. – don’t know when he might be told a result. He is well this afternoon. None of us going to church tomorrow as we have been told we should watch over him for 24 hours.
HEATHER – so pleased for young Sam! What next for him? --- sorry, I now see you have told us! I thought aviation training would be at Yeovilton!
Been sorting out dried fruits to make a cake (lighter than Christmas cake) – discovered how old the cupboard supplies were – disgusted. Supervised disposal and put replacements on Monday shopping list.
OG: So glad they were able to do J's test. Sounds like a fairly typical result.
Heather: Tx or explaining - good for Sam!
Hello to all. I have been keeping up with news, good and not so good. Glad that J is on the other side of the colonoscopy OG.
Good news about Sam and Dibnlib's friend. Sorry that you have had another problem to deal with AQ.
I have an eventful week. First I discovered a wet patch of carpet outside my bathroom. Rather disconcerting to find a wet patch! I could not work out where it was coming from. It just got larger by the hour. Inspected by handyman who called in management. The roof was inspected for missing tiles. All looked as it should be. Wet patches then appeared around the door frame. With the storm being predicted I was keen to get this sorted out, so I made sure that I reported that I was changing soaking wet towels twice daily. I did not want to go off the radar(as can happen).
By this time, I think our brilliant handyman had worked out the problem, so he cut a hole in the bathroom ceiling. Fast forward, when this place was built around three years ago, some smart person who was fixing the ceiling beams (or whatever they are called) had managed to put a screw through the water supply pipe. Over time this had corroded and allowed the water through.
While this was going on my poor OH had another TIA. He is still in our area stroke centre. I think he is recovering but it has been a tough year for him with the fractured hip six months ago.
Rosy: Glad you got one problem sorted out (screw through water pipe?!). Assume your OH is on blood pressure meds? Hope the TIA has minimal if any repercussions.
