Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 1 December 2024

HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY NEW MONTH and HAPPY NEW MOON!

I hope everyone has a good December and holiday season. A new moon begins the month and another new moon will end the month (and the year)!

On Thanksgiving night, my region had a weak earthquake. People felt the shaking, but no damage was done. It wasn't a big deal, except that folks were talking about how distressed the dogs, cats, and wildlife were before, during, and after the quake. We have small quakes once in a while, and nobody knows why this particular quake disturbed the animals so much. The raccoons on my patch were goofy, running around on the roof, barking, and trying to get in the house. One woman said the ducks on her lake raised a loud ruckus. Lots of folks said their dogs behaved strangely. Many people had animal stories.

We had Arctic cold move in yesterday, and the raccoons have now begun their hibernation (torpor).

Love and hugs to everyone.

  • OG:  Earthquake up north offshore.  A good-sized one though; not something you'd want in a city.  Tsunami warning was canceled after an hour.     Surely J will get some kind of sedative before the colonoscopy?

  • Glad you're not affected by a possible earhquake/tsunami, Annette.

Glad you got the dentist out of the way without any incident, OG.

How very blinkin' annoying to have to sort out the error, AQ.hope you can claim some sort of reimbursement as it wasn't your fault that it was incorrect!!  The Carol service sounded charming. Our little Rosie (5) is destined for the part of one of the sheep in the Nativity performance at school. Good job I can't go (no room for anyone but parents as space is limited) as I would be blubbing loudly!!

Rusty, all my fingers & toes crossed for your Results. I'm sure it will be fine. (HUGS)

Sorry I've been absent but we do seem to be busy. .

  • Just tried to add a reply and it's put a repeat of my last post --sigh--

My OH was rained off from golf again, so I dropped all my plans for the morning & helped him retrieve all the boxes of Christmas lights from under the stairs, lug them into the conservatory and sort out the newer ones bought last January Sales. Then he put them up, draping  most over hedges and bushes as this year, he promised not to go up ladders. It was a lot of work but now it's done it's satisfying as it's quite pretty, with twinkling white lights dancing. I stood in the road in the drizzle tonight to admire it from a distance and then our neighbours son arrived in a massive white van and parked it right outside, blocking most of it from view!!!!!

  • Lindybird:  I assume proud parents will video Rosie's stage debut?   Hope the neighbor's son is planning to stay long.

  • Glad you weren’t affected by the earthquake Annette.

Lindy - well done with the lights. A bit frustrating about the van though. I hope it has gone now. Thanks for your good wishes re the mammogram.
AQ -that is a really bad and frustrating error they made with your OH’s death certificate. You don’t need more stress and upset just now. I agree that you should be refunded as it was not your fault. The heat and humidity sound horrid. I don’t know how you function in it. I hope you have now sorted out a new fridge freezer which will suit. I wonder how long you will have to wait for it to be delivered and installed. Not long I hope.
OG - thinking of J and you all today.
My lunch out yesterday was very good. We did a 2 hour birding walk. The highlights were 2 dippers and a lovely male bullfinch. To make things a bit more interesting, our leader prepared a little quiz/treasure hunt on nature in general. It made us more observant. We worked in 2s. Unbelievably, my partner and I failed to find a feather so, obviously, we didn’t win!! The Christmas meal was very good with lots of veggies served in Christmas tree shaped tureens. I ordered the warm chocolate brownie and cream for pud. It was very very rich!!! Gorgeous though!!!
I went supermarket shopping this morning. I think everyone had the same idea. Get it done today before the huge storm arrives overnight. I am not looking forward to it. I think I have said before that I am on a hill and I worry so much about my roof tiles in high winds. It’s really calm and dry just now.

  • So we went to Brodie this morning.  We always meet a friend there at 0945 and are usually just about the first there but not this morning so obviously the Christmas shoppers are about.  Anyway we had a lovely surprise because after our coffee and catch up we had a browse and I bumped into my friend Erica and was able to introduce her to Janis.  They have both heard so much about each other they can now put a face to the name.

  • ANNETTE - Glad to see the earthquake is further north and not down your coastal area.

RUSTY – glad the outing – and lunch – was so good.  Great to see Dippers again – great little birds.  The Wagtails have reappeared in town – I don’t know why they go away in summer, but we always have them in December through to March.

DIBNLIB – lucky you, getting to Brodie at Ch time – and great to meet friends there.

J is getting on well with his preparation for tomorrow – just need to encourage him to pack!  I stayed home this afternoon and OH went to Tesco for weekend shopping.  I now need to get on with some online ordering – practical essentials, nothing interesting.

  • OG:  Will  still have his exam what with that storm bearing down on your area?

Rusy: You're in the path of that storm too right?

    Stay safe everyone!

  • Yes Annette. I am not quite in the red warning part but am in the amber one. I have done all I can to prepare outside. As you know, I worry about my roof. At least, living on a hill, I will not flood! Obviously I am going nowhere. I plan to have a cook and freeze session as long as there isn’t a power cut! Thanks for thinking of me.
OG - thinking of J. It will soon be over then you can all relax for the weekend.

Dibnlib - so pleased you had such a nice time at Brodie.
