Weekly Chat, Sunday, December 26 2010

Phew!  That's that for another year.  Now off to check recent posts.

  • Morning all,

JSB : Great car and a bit like the Delorean as someone else mentioned.

Everyone else thanks for the chat.

Spent the whole day yesterday looking after neighbours cat Marvin. We took him to the vets after getting permission from the owners. Unfortunately the vet could not do anything for him so we had to take him home and keep him warm until neighbours arrived home in the late evening. He was very poorly and we did not expect him to last the night but I notice that he has been taken to the vets this morning for what I expect will be his final journey. He is around 18 years old and was a lovely cat, very friendly with all the local children and with Hamish.

Weather is misty and dull.  Current temp 4.7c.

4 days without any wind. What possible use are wind turbines in this weather? The whole idea is a costly mistake.

Happy Hogmanay to everyone. Sorry I am a bit downbeat today.

  • Hello everyone from a misty Cambs/Essex border, also with no wind - and don't get me started about those useless wind farms Alan!!  I'm still revelling in having beaten the proposed one near me.  So sorry to hear about your neighbour's cat.  As you say 18 years is an excellent age for it to him to have reached, but it is always difficult when the end is nigh.

Diane, what a terrifying experience with the earthquake.  So glad you weren't hurt and there was no damage to your property.

    Annette good luck with Windows!

Excellent news from everyone that the snow is melting all around.  Yes, it is nice to see green grass again.  I just wonder which plants will have survived and which won't.  It will be interesting seeing what comes up or bursts into bud again.  For those that don't it is an opportunity to plant something new!

We celebrated an early New Year with friends last night, and had a lovely time.  Their daughter, my LG companion, turned up when the pubs shut and we all played a game or too.  This morning I've been in touch with the hospital about aged aunt who is progressing well, but much to the consternation of staff she is still insisting on going home rather than to a residential home.  She changed wards on Christmas Eve - 9.45pm!! as they needed her 'respiratory' bed.  Everyone who she has contact with seems to like her which is lovely.  A stubborn and independent 92 year old spinster.

Must go and put my glad-rags on and prepare for nephew's wedding.  Such a pity it is a dull dank day, but I am sure everyone will have a lovely time and no doubt the bride will be radiant!

  • Morning all. Sorry, been puppy sitting so will catch up later but wanted to say-

Alan, so sorry about next door's cat. So sad. You did a very good thing yesterday.

Shelia, have a great time at the wedding. Sure it will be wonderful. Don't forget to take your camera! lol

  • Good morning all I though the sun was coming out but it lasted about 5 minutes and has done back to just being cloudy and a little cooler than it was yesterday.

My sister walked a few steps yesterday, the first time she has been out of bed for 9 days.  Is having physiotherapy to help her as well.  They carried out some memory tests and she came through with shining colours.  My brother-in-law is still trying to talk to a doctor about the operation and the various scans she has had since.  He is still not sure if they managed to remove the whole tumour and all he does know so far is that there is another tumour on the back of her head which they will have to deal with either by another operation or radiotherapy.  She has a long way to go but the news is more than we could have hoped for.  She is having another assessment today and hopefully her OH will be able to find out more. We are all so pleased that the news so far is fairly good and hopefully with Christmas gone and the New Year nearly on us it will be easier to find out more from the doctors.

Alan  was so sad to read about Marvin but what a good age for a cat  I can imagine how upsetting it must have been for you both yesterday when nothing could be done for him.

Diane what crazy happenings for you.  An earthquake and now you having unseasonably warm weather after having had snow.  The weather the world over is very strange.  Terrible floods in Australia and  Artic type weather here in the UK.  It is winter here but we have never experienced such cold weather where we live on the South Coast and had snow lying for a couple of weeks.  It has all gone now and warmed up for a couple or so days but the temperatture is going down again as another cold spell is lurking in the wings.

dibnlib pleased you enjoyed your lunch yesterday, sounded delicious.

We are not miserable old fogeys but do not go out on New Years Eve and quite often are in bed before the new year comes in.  They are having fireworks in Bournemouth Square tonight but I can't cope with crouds and also it is going to be quite cold.    Will raise a glass to you all sometime during the evening.

After all the rich food over Christmas we are going to have egg and chips tonight and I am really looking forward to it.  OH loves egg and chips too.  We don't eat a lot of fried food but just felt like something simple tonight.

Off to the panto tomorrow where we will behave like kids and really enjoy ourselves.

Lily and Hope cam now running but Lily has licked the lens and is a bit jumpy and it is not quite where they want it to be at the moment  but are hoping to get it in a better position soon.  If there are going to be cubs born it will be middle January.  Link below.

  • Hello Everyone, and a belated good  Morning to you All.  I'm rather behind as we stayed out late last night - we went to Meg's house, where the little puppy has now turned into a small but lively border collie.

Sheila - hope you have a good time at the wedding.

Annette:   Good Luck with the Windows 7 !!   I'd hate to have to get to grips with something new, too....

Diane:   An Earthquake!!   how bizzare.   Glad you and the house are OK!  although I don't blame you for being somewhat perturbed....  (by the way, you have not 'blathered a lot' , its interesting...)

Alan:  Sorry to hear about Marvin - but as margo says, its a good age for a cat and at least you did all you could in the circumstances.  Hope you can enjoy your Hogmanay.

dibnlib:  Good Luck with the swimming!   That meal sounds great - especially the brulee!

margo:   Egg & Chips - how lovely.  We had Macaroni Cheese one night over Christmas, just because we were fed up with all the rich food.  Hope you have a great time at the panto, and tell us all about it later.  Thanks for your Good Wishes.

Enjoyed ourselves with friends and relatives last night, just a little bit of supper and a glass or two!  Meg the Puppy got into The Doghouse for going out into the garden and digging a big hole in the now soggy but soft soil, then coming in and running through the guests with muddy paws!!  Oh Dear!  We went to bed at 1.00 am which is very late for us these days, and now have to get up the energy to go out again to dinner, tonight.

  • Welcome to borderslass, who has joined us in the Osprey Group and is now our 387th member!

  • Margo : I am glad your sister is improving. I also like egg and chips. When we were on holiday in Rhodes one year we had egg and chips for lunch nearly every day!!!!

borderslass : welcome from me also.

Just taken Hamish for his walk. Weather is dreich and not quite so foggy. I did not get a chance to go and look for the waxwings yesterday but there were no reports locally yesterday and today so I think i have missed them again.  We went on a food shopping mission this morning which was postponed after yesterdays crisis with Marvin. We just went to the Coop as Tesco would be manic today. I then dropped Lady P in the town and came home with the shopping.

There was an osprey on the Dunedin nest earlier but it has gone again. We had an egg by this time last year so hopefully any day now. Also will keep an eye out for Phoebe s first egg later.

Update : There was a report of around 40 waxwings in a front garden at the edge of the village. They were there at 13:15. I have just taken a walk up there and yes you've guessed it. They have gone.

  • Good afternoon Lindybird.  Glad you are enjoyed time with friends last evening,  That was late to bed, hope you are having a bit of a snooze this afternoon before you go out to dinner.  Funny how we long to have some simple food after Christmas.  We had spaghetti bolognese one night and really enjoyed that too.

I can see we have a couple of fans of egg and chips,  Smiled at your post Alan about having egg and chips while on holiday in Crete.

-- been trying to drop off, margo, but only succeeded in 'resting my eyes' for a bit!  I find it disconcerting that you can only eat rich food for a day or two before you go off the whole idea -  I have always planned to eat icecream for breakfast, and chips & roast potatoes every day when I get to Heaven!!!!  (but then again maybe I'll have a cast iron digestive system then, to go with it)
