Weekly Chat, Sunday, December 26 2010

Phew!  That's that for another year.  Now off to check recent posts.

  • evening everyone. Will try and catch up later but enjoyed reading all the posts.

Diane/Annette, thanks for the thoughts about the storm. It's already being dubbed the "Blizzard of the decade" on the news, mainly as I think we only had one other blizzard in that time! LOL (there is some definition of a blizzard here, something to do with visibility and sustained 35mph winds for some length of time.) The long and short of it is we are expecting 12-20 inches of snow by Monday lunchtime with high winds tonight. So, definably get to use the plow. very excited! The horses were standing out in it. They came in for the night and we brushed 3 inches of snow off their blankets.

Had a lovely day here, more puppy visiting so may try and get some pictures on tomorrow.

    Happy monday everyone

  • Morning all ... hope everyone got through the weekend unscathed! It was snowing earlier this morning, but seems to be light rain just now. I hope that means all this snow is going to thaw!

I haven't posted over the weekend, but I did read and catch up each evening. Thanks to all for chat, links, pics etc.

I have been thinking of margobird a lot too ... hugs to you again.

Gary - I hope you don't suffer too much in your snowstorm .. I was watching it on our news this morning. At least you will get to play with your new snow toy :-))

    Take care everyone.

  • Morning, Everyone:  Am eating a very late breakfast, after being lazy & staying in bed with the TV, listening to the rain beating down upon the snow!  Its so very wintery here, I wish I could just hibernate till spring.

Here is your Monday Smile, I think I have run out of funny photos so it's two jokes this time:

Rather, this one is a quote rather than a joke:  Four year old Lucas will be Joseph in the school's Nativity play.  His mother was patiently explaining the Nativity to him, and said "Baby Jesus would receive presents of gold, frankincese and myrrh."  Lucas scornfully replied  "He doesn't want gold and stuff, he wants toys!!"

A man is stopped by the police at midnight and asked where he is going.  "I'm on my way to listen to a lecture about the effects of alcohol on the human body", he replies.  The policeman asks "Really?"  "And who's going to give a lecture at this time of night?"  -  "My wife!!".

    Have a good Monday, All.

  • Morning all,

Its the 1st morning I can recall that there is no ice on the cars. Temp at present is +2.2c. Still snow and ice on pavements and the road but the sun is shining so hopefully it will all disappear soon!!!

Thanks for all the earlier chat.

Gary : sounds like you are in for quite a lot of snow, I hope it is not too bad.

Linda : Thanks for the monday smile.

    Joke from Lady P:

Paddy phones for an ambulance as Murphy s been hit by a car. Operator asks where the accident is. Paddy says its outside 28 Eucalyptus Road. The Operator asks "How do you spell that?". The line goes quiet for 5 minutes. The Operator gets a bit worried. Then Paddy says " Sorry about that, I've just dragged him to Oak Street!"

  • Ho ho ho Alan, or rather, Lady P.  That made me laugh out loud.

Gary I too have heard of the snow storms hitting the east coast of America.  Your description of the term blizzard sounds awful.  To have 35 mph winds with heavy snow will presumably lead to a lot of drifting too.  Thank goodness for your big man's toy!!  Have fun, but stay safe.

Morning Lindybird, I liked your two comments/jokes too.  The chap was very wise by the sound of it to anticipate a lecture!

Glad to hear you may be starting the thaw DjoanS.  Our friends in North Yorks are running out of lawn space to pile all the snow they have cleared from the drive/pavement, and are pleased to have changed over to winter tyres for the first time!

The temperature is above freezing at last, the wind has now got up, but the sky is grey.  Have a good day everyone.

We had a quiet day on Christmas Day but heard that my sister has improved a bit more, although still very confused and not realy knowing it is Christmas.  I am hoping to hear some news today as to whether they managed to an MRI scan to look at the other tumour that has been found.  Apparently it is smaller.  As soon as possible she will be having radiotherapy but at the moment still not sure how long she will be in hospital.  My sister and I will be going up as soon as she is able to cope with more visitors.  At the moment visiting is just half hour visits twice a day as she is so tired and confused.

We had a nice time with my sister yesterday and little Rhys certainly kept us well amused most of the time.  He is still suffering from a cold and a chesty cough but remained happy and smiling all the time which really helped us all.  Had far to much to eat so will be eating less today.  She had done a buffet and was amazed at how much I had of it.  Very enjoyable though.

My OH has been wonderful as always.  I have to admit to having a couple of glasses of Chablis while cooking Christmas dinner and it was a good idea.  I managed to get everything cooked perfectly with no flapping and getting worried so I think I will always have to do this to ensure a stress free morning with the dinner.

One of my birthday gifts is a day with birds of prey, training and flying.  OH will be able to come as well for a small fee so looking forward to that later this year.  Apparently you are taken to a very nice pub for lunch and one of he birds comes with you so that should be quite entertaining.  It will be quite a year  what with the LG visit and then being able to fly birds of prey.

At long last the snow is finally going and it is a lttle warmer.  We are off to London tomorrow to see the a show that the Magic Circle put on every year.  I am very relieved it is warmer.  We are going on the coach thought so at least I will not get as cold as I do on the trains.

Had not looked in since Christmas Eve, but glad everyone had a good Christmas.

Hope you are feeling better soon ALICAT,

Lynette thanks for the prayer for my sister.

Alan  lovely capture of Phoebe.  I thought of you and Lady on Christmas Day and how you would be missing Lady P's sister.

    Wonderful photographs WendyB.

Heather  was nice to see a post from you.

  • Alan  love Lady P's joke.

  • Good morning all and just another small post to say how touched I am by your kind thoughts and wishes.  Also may thanks for the birthday wishes.  Sorry I have not replied to all individually but I thought I would just have a quick look through while OH is out getting a few bits of shopping and most importantly bird food.  As I have said in my previous post it is warmer or should I say less cold, today.  First morning in ages we have not had a frost.  Goodness  knows what the temperature went down to on Christmas night as the frost early Boxing Day was a sight to see, all the trees were covered in it.

We did what I know my sister would have wanted and that is to try and enjoy Christmas Day and of course my birthday and given the circumstances did managed to enjoy the last two days.  My sister is now out of the woods yet  as we are waiting to hear about the second turmour they have found.   She is coming along but obviously quite confused and extemely tired.  It is sad to think that she is not really aware that Christmas has come and gone but hopefully she will be here next Christmas.  All of us are thinking positive for her.

Billy Whizz spent most of Christmas Day in and around our garden but then we didn't see him at all before we went out yesterday but knew when we came home had been as all the food and milk had gone.  I am so relieved he is managing to keep going through this cold weather.

Annette, Gary and Diane seems there is some terrible weather around for each of you, please take care I will be thinking of you.

Lindybird thank you for the Monday Jokes.
