HAPPY NEW WEEK!

I hope everyone has a good week.

Winter has arrived on my patch. We had 2.5 inches (6.35 centimeters) of snow with 40 mph wind gusts on Thursday. It has melted now.

I left a carrot in the opening of the groundhog's burrow before the storm, but he didn't eat it. He's probably gone into hibernation. I left his carrot, in case we get the brief warm up predicted for Sunday and Monday.

I laughed this morning. Even with the cold, there was a lone surviving super mosquito flying around my bedroom.

Love and hugs to everyone!

  • Big apology coming up.

First mention must go to AQ.  I was sorry to read your recent sad news – a difficult situation with so many conflicting emotions involved.  I just hope you can smile and enjoy some memories of really happy good times, and that the recent hard times will soon fade.  Remembering you daily.

DIANE – thanks for starting our new week.  Thinking of you and your Groundhog friend in the snow.  We didn’t get any snow, although one of the showers last Saturday did contain some slushy sleet.  The weather is warmer now, although I seem to feel cold quite often due to not being well.

HEATHER – I hope the scan goes well – and gets a good result.

PAT – sorry to read about the ankles – do get that still-painful one attended to!

DIBNLIB – thinking of the scan there too – these troubles do seem to be going on a long time.

SUNNY KATE and Others – I am still digging in my heels over mobile phones although I do have a very simple one for use if in hospital at any time – I’ll probably find I have forgotten how to use it!

LINDA, HEATHER ETC – OH was talking about painters and decorators today - I hope he doesn’t rush into anything – can’t think about managing around workmen in the house!  Luckily, we bought modern furniture when we moved in 20 years ago, and it is not ageing as fast as the previous teak-colour which we had previously.

Since I wrote anything worthwhile on here, I have completed the December magazine for church – it was rather a long one, so I am glad to get it out of the way.  Daily life goes on, with a few extras being a nuisance.  J is due (overdue) his colonoscopy – has to be there at 8:00 am on a Saturday morning  (7th) so they are apparently making some effort to catch up.  I am still fighting this “cold” – had it at least as long as Q Camilla has had hers!

Well, I have got this far, so will quit while I am winning!  Best wishes to all.

  • DIANE – Thank you for starting our new week. I hope you did not befriend that mozzie.

OG – Thank you for remembering me with all your troubles. So do you have the royal virus?

I had a long list of chores for today, starting with burying my veggie scraps in garden, watering tomatoes – oh dear, they need staking – add to list. Already 30 C mid morn, lawn is crunchy so out with the sprinkler. Pruned neighbour’s hedge growing over top of back fence (not bothering them) and discover the bamboos that Lawn Man pruned for me, have retaliated by growing through cracks in poorly installed side fence. Poisoned Nasty Shrub again – sure to rain now despite forecast. Printed family story that has been awaiting proof-reading since March. Received an email with proposed bus tours next year. I’ve ticked 6 of the 10 listed, even before all the dates confirmed. Both single day and weekend trips in our state. Who cares If I been there already – always something new to see. And of course always a bakery.

Yesterday I posted my overseas Christmas cards. Some are OH’s distant cousins and I needed to include news of OH. I have “triaged” OH’s clothes from NH– bin, wash & iron, pack up for charity. His brand new summer pjs never worn. I hope someone will benefit. Nearly lunchtime, time to put feet up and ignore rest of chores.

  • AQ - not good news about the bamboo. Very pleased that you have got lots of bus tours in mind for next year. You can go on them and be completely relaxed. I am on the same page as you when it comes to a bakery!!!
OG - so sorry to hear you are still afflicted by that cold. What a nuisance. Congratulations on getting yet another magazine done.
Heather - have you had your scan? I don’t suppose they could tell you anything there and then could they?

I have been out with my Flora and Fauna group to RSPB Conwy. It was a beautiful day. Sunny and quite warm. The highlight was a good view of a water rail. Finished off in the cafe with a very nice hot chocolate.

  • What, no lunch Rusty?! Glad you fitted in the hot chocolate though.

Good that you have been able to book some bus tours, without having to worry about things at home. We look forward to photos and reports of your adventures.

I hope all is well with Heather.

Best wishes to OG, I hope your cold gets better quicker than the Queen's (not that I wish her ill). I think that she must still be coughing to miss those events!

  • Sorry AQ, the second sentence is obviously meant for you. I was waiting for some water to boil to cook some beans and got distracted!

  • Well, made it two days running.  One thing we have been busy with is a revision of our legal stuff – Powers of Attorney and Wills, with associated discussion.  Today was signing day, at last.  The Solicitor has to visit home as their office is inaccessible to wheelchairs!  Good to have it all sorted with correct names and addresses – and live solicitor as our previous one sadly died.

AQ – don’t know if it is officially “the royal virus” – just know it has been really debilitating.  Good to see you have booked some trips for the new season – looking forward to them can be as much fun as doing them! Pleased you are taking some time to relax as well as getting on with the many jobs.

ROSY – we have started eating some of our home-grown frozen runner beans – not quite as good as fresh ones, but still like a bit of fresh green on the plate.

We have missed a couple of our eating-out Wednesdays, but shall hope to have our lunch tomorrow – the one where J always enjoys the “Farmer’s Breakfast”!
