HAPPY NEW WEEK!

I just returned from Indianapolis. I stayed a couple of extra days to care for the dogs. My friends became ill on their last day of the trip, and were sick and feverish when their plane landed. Testing doesn't yet show Covid, but that's what the symptoms indicate.

I had an interesting experience at their house early this morning. I was sitting on their couch putting on make-up. Suddenly, I heard a LOUD bang against the large window behind me. I jumped at the sound. I looked to see a very large female red-tailed hawk sitting on the deck next to the window. She was only about 3 feet from me, and she looked me right in the eyes. I watched to make sure she recovered, and she seemed to be fine as she flew away. She must have been chasing prey and didn't see the glass. I'm glad she was okay. She was such a beautiful, majestic bird.

I've been REALLY busy with the dogs, and haven't been online. The little English setter is 18 years old and not in good health. I'm going back now and catch up on your news.

Everyone have a good week!

  • Thanks for remembering us - we are doing okay despite a few hitches.  No snow here - and frost is not as bad as in many places.

  • Heather:  Oh dear....... well, hang in there.  :-)

  • Good to hear from you OG.

Beautiful frosty morning here with blue sky and sparking snow. Very lethal underfoot though so I am not going out until it thaws a bit.

  • Had a lovely but very cold walk at Hever this morning with a friend.  It's the last day that members can 'take a friend for free', and this particular friend has been with me three times now. Always in November, and always completely different.  Not a breath of wind, but cold and frosty.  We saw just one Great Crested Grebe, looking a bit monochrome in his winter plumage.  I think everything else - apart from a couple of swans and a few mallards - were all sleeping in.  Most of the leaves have dropped, but nice to walk through them.  As we left, of course, the sun came out!  But at least the greyness was pale ...

  • Our day began with a white over all around view -  but it was white with frost, not snow! Minus 4 last night!

I went to the shops for supplies, but very gingerly in the car followed by very carefully on foot. Glad of my stick these days: it gives you three legs to balance on.Yesterday my OH got a call from a friend to say that there had been break ins at the allotment. Most people have a toolshed & half of them have greenhouses. They had broken into every single one of the sheds- about 40! They had broken my OHs gate, then his shed door, to gain entry, but as he only keeps a few spades and bits of bamboo in there, they just left it. Some people had old lawnmowers and chainsaws taken. Everyone of course, is very cross. He had to get some tools to go back and mend the damage.

Glad that you and EE are alright, OG.

  • I tried to reply to myself but it just repeated my post!!  Now I'm "replying" to Diane's message

I was trying to say that whilst I wrote my bit of rambling notes, above, we had a sudden flash of lightning followed by a good old rumble of thunder!!

  • Sorry about the break ins at the allotment Lindy. That is a horrible thing to happen. Such thoughtless people cause a lot of distress, even if not much taken. Having to repair damage caused by such idiots is very annoying.

    Thinking of AQ.
