HAPPY NEW WEEK!
I'm in Indianapolis taking care of 5 dogs. Talk to you all later.
Everybody have a good week. Love and hugs to all.
Diane -- It didn't seem to be technology getting too fond of itself - door handles are pretty basic and it got sworn about by me, as one of those annoying "inanimate objects!" that aggravate me daily, LOL!!
No one was outside the lift to greet us or help us - we reported it to the Reception Desk but they seemed unfazed!! The door handle was mended in the afternoon by a man in overalls with bad body odour, but hey- it works now, even though my OH said he mended it with the wrong screw!!
We went down to breakfast today & were shocked to find we were the only ones wearing a poppy. About 50 or 60% of the guests are British & the rest are German or Scandinavian. I didn't fear upsetting the German contingent as the poppy is for the fallen and badly injured of all sides, as far as I'm concerned - I always stand when they show the Cenotaph ceremony as my dear Uncle John came back from India with injuries which made him refuse to marry his girlfriend of the time. He would have been a wonderful father, given the chance, which seemed such a shame.
Not at all sure about OGs remarks regarding the same.
LINDY - 'Lest we forget'.
Thank you for that Lindybird. It's appreciated.
DIANE: I do hope the dogs are behaving themselves. I think I remember there were problems the last time you helped out with the dogs. A hug to you.
So well done DIANE. Thank you from me . (on behalf of your close neighbour the Groundhog)
Thanks Lindy.
We have sunshine here today!! First time for over a week!! So nice. I am very pleased with myself as I have just finished preparing and typing my next lesson for the French group. It will be sometime in the new year before it is my turn!!! Not printed it all off yet. It is French this afternoon. I don’t know the topic as we have not had homework. (NB. My lesson for next term DOES involve homework!!!)
I have just stood outside for the two minutes' silence. Very moving, even though there were not many people there. All a bit different from yesterday - we were told we would hear the gun at 11.00am and know when the 'silence' started. But no gun. So we were probably a bit late. Then some bright spark said, 'Oh, they only fire the gun on 11 November!' Wish they'd told me that earlier ...
And it's almost sunny ... such a relief after what seems like weeks of greyness and dampness. Hooray!
An apparently abandoned house near us was recently earmarked for restoration. If anyone has nothing better to do, here's a link to the Scottish history surrounding it. main-beggfarmhouse.org/.../
Monday - sorry some patriots were annoyed by my comment on poppy mania. I agree with the sentiments expressed, but the service begaan "We are gathered here to worship GOD and remember the world's fallen from the First World War onwards, and yet it became a service in praise of wearing a Red Poppy. The only part of the regular liturgy I cannot abide is the one by the Victorian (I think) chap who wrote loads of epitaphs and presumably sold them for various commemorations! If I was ever forced to wear a poppy it would have to be a white one - for peace. The best part of our service yesterday was the acual two minutes silence sandwiched between the bugle calls.
Been a very sunny day today - been feeling a bit better, but E-E tells me I have kept falling asleep.
