RESUMÉ FOR MAY 2024
The new couple’s relationship has continued to grow. They have worked hard together to maintain and strengthen their nest, bringing in new materials daily. Both birds have been catching fish and sharing these with each other. They have also shared incubation and developed strategies to get each other off the eggs when needed! They have also defended their nest from intruders, the most traumatic being when Blue 432, Eshells, a 3 year old returner from Kielder visited on the 9th of May.. Blue 372 fought hard to keep her place on the nest as she was continually chased and dive bombed in Blue 432’s bid to oust her. The eggs were left unattended for around 3 1/2 hours. Luckily it was a warm evening so hopefully no damage done. The most exciting visit came from dear KA9 (22), Gelert, son of LJ2 and LM6 when he arrived on the morning of the 25th of May. It was a short visit as he was soon ushered away by LJ2.

14.02 372 stands up and as she does LJ2 flies onto the nest to take the fish.
372 tells him that she wants it
LJ2 takes his talons off as 372 takes the fish in her beak.

14.16 LJ2 starts chipping
They are both watching something

14.18 an Osprey flies from behind 372
It flies forward and upwards
14.18 LJ2 shoots up vertically in a flash
a second later an Osprey is seen flying away (top right corner)
LJ2 lands a second after that. I think the intruder must’ve been on the cam post.
LJ2 flies up to the cam post again, 4 seconds later.
372 is keeping a watchful eye on things
LJ2 flies back down
14.19 LJ2 chipping, 372 is making her way to the chicks.
14.22 372 has settled on the chicks and LJ2 is still defending.
14.26 it seems quieter, LJ2 flies off.

Thanks Wendy, I don’t think that egg’s hatching. It’s 6 days since #2 hatched.

18.24 372 was sitting brooding the bobs when something caught her attention. She let out a warning call.
Thankfully this time, she backed off away from the chicks
before flying away.
18.25 However, she returned to the nest quickly.
LJ2 soon joined her
They both turned together when they heard something
18.27 372 settled on the chicks and LJ2 took the fish away.
I hope that drone isn’t back.
19.43 All seemed to be well since, 372 remained on the nest. She started vocalising and LJ2 arrived with the fish.
19.55 He is currently eating the fish on the nest and 372 is vocalising on and off.
20.04 372 decided it was time for a feed and took the fish off LJ2.
20.05 LJ2 cleaned his beak against a piece of wood
20.11 A few minutes later, LJ2 left and we could see the feed going on.
Since #2 bob was being fed, I presume #1 had already got its share.
