RESUMÉ FOR MAY 2024
The new couple’s relationship has continued to grow. They have worked hard together to maintain and strengthen their nest, bringing in new materials daily. Both birds have been catching fish and sharing these with each other. They have also shared incubation and developed strategies to get each other off the eggs when needed! They have also defended their nest from intruders, the most traumatic being when Blue 432, Eshells, a 3 year old returner from Kielder visited on the 9th of May.. Blue 372 fought hard to keep her place on the nest as she was continually chased and dive bombed in Blue 432’s bid to oust her. The eggs were left unattended for around 3 1/2 hours. Luckily it was a warm evening so hopefully no damage done. The most exciting visit came from dear KA9 (22), Gelert, son of LJ2 and LM6 when he arrived on the morning of the 25th of May. It was a short visit as he was soon ushered away by LJ2.
Oh yes, quite a reaction from her, fingers crossed Many thanks Hawk Willow!
Thanks for the video Hawk Willow. It sounded like the chup chup noise coming from one of the eggs.
Glider said:He is soon mantling and chipping.
This didn’t come to anything at 11.15 this morning.
I’ve checked a few of the egg rolls by 372 and there is definitely chupping coming from one of the eggs.

Yes you may Wendy!
Thanks Gilder for the new thread and all the updates.
Shouldn't be too long now before you give us some cracking news
17.03 372 was sitting on the eggs when LJ2 flew in from the lake with a whole fish.
She initially grabbed the fish from her sitting position.
Then stood up to take it.
As 372 squealed with delight, the chupping could be heard from the egg too.
17.04 LJ2 looked at the eggs as he heard it too.
Cropped pic of eggs. I still can’t see any visible signs of pipping.
17.05 372 continued to eat on the nest. She paused with a morsel in her beak as she heard the chupping.
It was like she felt she had to be feeding a chick, but there was no gaping mouth.
17.06 She continued to eat. LJ2 came to look after the eggs.
372 felt drawn to the eggs. She released the fish from her talons.
17.07 She went towards LJ2, who continued settling in over the eggs.
She then looked at the fish. She was still hungry.
17.08 372 went back to the fish and powered her way through it.
17.17
17.19 She soon just had the tail left to swallow
It took a few attempts but she got there.
17.20 372 went to encourage LJ2 to leave but he was quite determined to stay.
17.22 In the end, 372 flew off, leaving LJ2 with the eggs.
372’s instincts are kicking in. She knows something’s happening. That’s the first time she’s accepted a fish from LJ2 and eaten it all on the nest.
