Three beautiful eggs were laid from mid-April, with the final one arriving almost 10 hours later than NC0’s usual 72 hour 'cycle'.
Both Laddie and NC0 have had to defend the nest from many 'passing through' intruders. Could Laddie’s defence of the reserve be the reason why there has been no sighting of him on the webcam since early lunchtime on the 28th? There were a few occasions where there was a high likelihood that he may have been in NC0’s sight since then though, her loud fish calls alerted us to that probable fact.
With NC0’s last meal being delivered on the 27th, we can only hope that Laddie arrives home not only fit and well, but also with a well-deserved fish for such an amazing female Osprey – her endeavours to keep the eggs protected, warm and dry during his absence, have been truly remarkable!
As I write, it has been just over 60 hours without Laddie at the nest and we now wait, in anticipation, for a positive start to this new month...
*UPDATED 4.5.23: Heartbroken to report, that there was very sadly no positive news forthcoming regarding our dear Laddie...

Speechless this is devastating news!
As if things can't get any sadder...... And they can!
Woodland Trust just posted this on Loch Arkaig forum :
I am going to break from our usual practice of avoiding updates from other nests, because unfortunately it seems there has been a development at another nest that is extremely concerning.
Police Scotland Tayside have posted on Facebook:
“We are appealing for information after the remains of an osprey were found near Dunkeld, Perth and Kinross, on Friday, 3 May, 2024.
The protected species is believed to have been nesting at Loch of the Lowes, close to where it was found.
Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the full circumstances.
Inspector James Longden said: “It is illegal to kill any protected species and we are working closely alongside partner agencies to confirm what has happened here and whether there is any criminality involved.
“Information from the local community could prove vital and it is important we speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area, or who may know something which could assist our investigation.
“Any information can be passed to Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 3266 of Friday, 3 May, 2024. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
It sounds like foul play may have been the reason for Laddie’s absence from the nest for several days.
I just wanted to express our solidarity with our friends and colleagues at Scottish Wildlife Trust.
As we know, these birds face all sorts of natural threats and difficulties. It is really galling to think they still have to face harm from people too.
Just the most devestating and heartbreaking news possible
I can't believe this STV item I've just come across. I prefer to wait to hear from LotL, but felt I ought to post the link. I hope it's wrong.

Sorry. I hadn't refreshed, so I'm somewhat behind. This is senseless.
Geemeff, thank you for posting the response from The Woodland Trust, very much appreciated.
A brief catch up: NC0 took 2 comfort breaks away from the nest at 19:53 and again at 20:16
She was shouting at 20:59, the intruder was probably close to the nest again - no threat seen
NC0 pre-night cam at 21:42
At present, 22:14

Just a quick post to say I am keeping up with all news posted but it seems wrong to 'like' the comments as it's all very sad, also appreciate how very difficult it must be for our regulars to carry on updating in these trying circumstances!
In light of this evening's heartbreaking news, I have made some alterations and put on additions to the OP.
Appreciate totally what you are saying Wendy and it seems wrong but it supports the poster as it is so difficult to keep posting in such tragic osprey times!
