Three beautiful eggs were laid from mid-April, with the final one arriving almost 10 hours later than NC0’s usual 72 hour 'cycle'.
Both Laddie and NC0 have had to defend the nest from many 'passing through' intruders. Could Laddie’s defence of the reserve be the reason why there has been no sighting of him on the webcam since early lunchtime on the 28th? There were a few occasions where there was a high likelihood that he may have been in NC0’s sight since then though, her loud fish calls alerted us to that probable fact.
With NC0’s last meal being delivered on the 27th, we can only hope that Laddie arrives home not only fit and well, but also with a well-deserved fish for such an amazing female Osprey – her endeavours to keep the eggs protected, warm and dry during his absence, have been truly remarkable!
As I write, it has been just over 60 hours without Laddie at the nest and we now wait, in anticipation, for a positive start to this new month...
*UPDATED 4.5.23: Heartbroken to report, that there was very sadly no positive news forthcoming regarding our dear Laddie...

Nest Updates
Arrival dates: NC0(16) - 8.3.24 (17:52) Laddie (LM12) - 27.3.24 (16:38) RIP Laddie (LM12) - remains found 3.5.24
Eggs laid: Egg #1 - 17.4.24 (10:48) Egg #2 - 20.4.24 (10:53) Egg #3 - 23.4.24 (20:47)
*Two eggs were destroyed on 7.5.24; the third one on 8.5.24, by an unringed, Pale Male Osprey. All were deemed unviable due to being chilled and left for long periods without incubation

Quote Belinda from previous page: Is it known whether the other osprey is thought to be male or female
It is not known, Belinda? Perhaps because of its necklace?
Edit: Sorry, I misread your post, Belinda, read it as 'It is' instead of 'Is it'! Apologies again
A male, according to Lowes
A quote from within yesterday's Fb post:
'After the bird on the camera flew off and the very dark intruding osprey with distinct markings (thought to be a male)' sat for extended periods on the split birch tree throughout the evening.'

Very unusual isn't it? Thanks Wendy!
The pair of geese (if they're the same ones as earlier), flew over at 12:46, making quite the racket. NC0 grunted and shouted on their approach and as they passed by! No attempted landing this time
NC0 at present, 13:17
After scrolling through the footage up until now, I can't see that the intruder has been back on the nest, nor have I seen NC0 standing up to eat

Looking in on the nest about 14:05 and see NCO having some fish
14:09 she is back on the eggs
13:27 NC0 went for a comfort break flight over the Loch
Arriving back to the nest under a minute later
She hadn't settled for long when a pair of geese flew over the back. NC0 grunted and shouted again as they passed

Oh that's great, many thanks, Karen!
This was her at 14:03, after getting up to eat
Such a lot left for her to keep nibbling on!

She left the fish on the front right edge of the nest
NC0 at present, 14:28
I can't find it posted on the SWT News Feed as yet, but I received this SWT/LotL blog via email yesterday (almost the same write up as the FB update)
Loch of the Lowes osprey nest update
15:21 NC0 flew off with her fish. She had a short period of looking around prior to leaving
She landed in the birch, just under the feeding post
Lowes took the opportunity to zoom in on the eggs at 15:23 - #1 front left, #3 top, #2 front right
NC0 returned, with her fish, at 15:25. Bless her, she made a short contact call just before coming into cam view
She made her way to the eggs...
Releasing her grip of it on the way to settle
NC0 was back up almost immediately and, as she turned, egg #2 came into view (cropped pic)
She didn't roll it but instead lay straight down
Scene at present, 15:57
At 16:24, NC0 took a break from incubating to eat
She kept looking up and checking the area after almost every beakful
16:27 NC0 released her grip of the fish and made her way back to the eggs
I assume she's just giving herself small 'top ups' to make the fish last longer?
