Three beautiful eggs were laid from mid-April, with the final one arriving almost 10 hours later than NC0’s usual 72 hour 'cycle'.
Both Laddie and NC0 have had to defend the nest from many 'passing through' intruders. Could Laddie’s defence of the reserve be the reason why there has been no sighting of him on the webcam since early lunchtime on the 28th? There were a few occasions where there was a high likelihood that he may have been in NC0’s sight since then though, her loud fish calls alerted us to that probable fact.
With NC0’s last meal being delivered on the 27th, we can only hope that Laddie arrives home not only fit and well, but also with a well-deserved fish for such an amazing female Osprey – her endeavours to keep the eggs protected, warm and dry during his absence, have been truly remarkable!
As I write, it has been just over 60 hours without Laddie at the nest and we now wait, in anticipation, for a positive start to this new month...
*UPDATED 4.5.23: Heartbroken to report, that there was very sadly no positive news forthcoming regarding our dear Laddie...

Re ospreys succumbing while fishing - I understand that they can drown when a fish is too heavy and they are unable to release it due to their curved talons - you will have noticed how females have an apparent tug-o-ar with their partner, trying to take the fish from him, it makes it look as tho he's withholding it but that's usually not the case.
On a happier note (ignoring the latest intruder ), here's a hasty video of NC0's magnificent catch:
IMAGICAT
19:50 A crow landed on the perch, NC0 was quite vocal
It flew off to the top of a pine tree - on the right, behind the nest - a few minutes later
At 21:05, it was still there when NC0 was tucking into her supper
She finished her meal at 21:13
NC0 released the fish from her talons and went back to incubating her eggs
The crow finally flew off at 21:17
NC0, pre night cam at 21:49
22:17 She's still awake at present (the fish is in front of her right wing)

4th May
Morning All,
Yesterday's intruder was back early this morning. NC0 had been on alert before this
5:56 NC0 was shouting at a nearby crow as the intruder was flying towards the nest. It had flown from beyond the birch corner. NC0 then alarm called
It hovered before landing on the front edge of the nest
It turned
It coy mantled
NC0 flapped her wings and shouted
Off it went
She shouted after settling back on the eggs
The intruder was back again at 6:50
As Hank Willow reported and showed us yesterday, its got a very distinctive right eye
NC0 flapped it away
NC0 had a lovely stretch at 7:15
8:45 While resting her eyes, a corvid flew to the perch
She was very disgruntled!
It flew down low behind the nest after this pic
9:38 NC0 backed up from the eggs
She gave her wings a good flap
After a quick look around, and a clean of her left talons, NC0 left the nest
Flying across the Loch, behind the nest, to land on the birch
She wasn't there long at all before making her way back to land on the perch
NC0 stayed there for under a minute and, after giving her feathers a good shake, she flew off again
She flew clockwise over the Loch, then past the right side of the nest until out of cam view
Back to land, from the left, a short time after (9:41)
Straight back to the eggs
NC0 at present, 10:18
I can't see that she has eaten from the fish at all so far this morning
12:01 NC0 up from the eggs to flap at a goose who was attempting to land!
Goose inbound
Another was flying around from the birch. They were very vocal as was NC0
NC0 lifted upwards
The both came face to face while in the air
The goose turned
NC0 landed on the perch
NC0 told it in no uncertain terms not to come back!
Back to the eggs

Is it known whether the other osprey is thought to be male or female
