April saw Blue LJ2 (18) pair with a new female, Blue 372 (21), with his first mate, Blue LM6 (18) sadly not returning this year. They raised 2 chicks in 2022 and 2023 and had formed a good partnership.
As a 3 year old, this is Blue 372’s first year of breeding. She was translocated to Poole Harbour in 2021 from a Scottish nest. She returned in 2023 and teamed up with Blue 416. They actually intruded at Llyn Brenig then and found themselves a nest elsewhere on private land in Wales. However, this year, Blue 372 chose the Llyn Brenig nest and LJ2 as her mate. Blue 416 did intrude here and try to take Blue 372 back. She stuck to her choice though and Blue LJ2 courted her and they became a couple. A lot of new experiences for Blue 372 this year but she is handling everything well and still doing her own thing ie catching fish if need be!

Very wise Scylla, it takes forever to sort it all out!
10.26 372 arrives, looks like she’s had a dip in the water, her undercarriage feathers are wet.
She vocalises to LJ2
Checks the eggs before sitting on them.

11.08 372 rolls the eggs again
12.22 and again.
12.36 372 is currently preening. She looks quite relaxed. Hopefully LJ2 has been fishing.
Nothing been posted on Brenig FB today yet.
I thought I saw some movement too!
I guess time will tell Wendy!
12.43 372 was fish calling loudly
12.44 LJ2 arrived with a headless fish.
12.44 372 secures her grip on the fish.
then takes it off nest.
12.57 372 returns carrying the remainder of the fish in her right talons.
LJ2 doesn’t move
372 starts eating it again.
12.58
12.59 then she takes it away.
13.12 however, she returns shortly with just a clump of earthy sticks
13.13 LJ2 leaves and 372 replaces a stick
13.14 then comfies down on the eggs.
13.44 372 egg rolling
14.44 she stands up making contact calls
then leaves for a comfort break
the eggs cropped
372 returns to the nest 33 seconds later
LJ2 is then seen flying from the left over the water towards the nest.
He goes past and up to the right, out of view.
15.12 more egg rolling
16.02 she’s up again
16.06 and again. She let out a few single chirps whilst moving the eggs.
16.07 and settles at last. I think she went full circle around the eggs.
17.27 still 372 on the nest, checking again.
17.28
17.32 LJ2 arrives with a stick
and takes over nest duties after sorting his stick.
17.57 the wind is catching LJ2’s tail
He’s getting blown to the side. 372 appears down to the left of the nest.
LJ2 readjusts as 372 does a flypast
He rolls the eggs
and settles down again.

Something must be happening with the first egg, Glider. There was definite movement shown in Scylla's morning vid!
