April saw Blue LJ2 (18) pair with a new female, Blue 372 (21), with his first mate, Blue LM6 (18) sadly not returning this year. They raised 2 chicks in 2022 and 2023 and had formed a good partnership.
As a 3 year old, this is Blue 372’s first year of breeding. She was translocated to Poole Harbour in 2021 from a Scottish nest. She returned in 2023 and teamed up with Blue 416. They actually intruded at Llyn Brenig then and found themselves a nest elsewhere on private land in Wales. However, this year, Blue 372 chose the Llyn Brenig nest and LJ2 as her mate. Blue 416 did intrude here and try to take Blue 372 back. She stuck to her choice though and Blue LJ2 courted her and they became a couple. A lot of new experiences for Blue 372 this year but she is handling everything well and still doing her own thing ie catching fish if need be!
And me three!
Thanks Sandra, you’re too kind!
Oh no, I’ve just found you on the next page Wendy! You’re all too kind!
It’s been a quiet afternoon. The couple have taken turns at incubation and the weather hasn’t improved.

May 23
The blustery, rainy weather has continued. Both birds have been incubating but I haven’t seen a fish at the nest yet. 05.05 LJ2 had a brief stop at the tower perch
05.06 He then went to the nest for the first swapover of the day. 05.26 372 didn’t stay away for long and was back after around 20 minutes.
07.49 372 rolling the eggs
09.54 LJ2 wants to take over.
11.27 372 rides in on a stick
13.12 372 was fish calling as she saw LJ2 flying in, but he hadn’t brought one.
13.47 372 is back
13.51 she is sleepy
A quiet day overall. Probably the conditions are making fishing difficult but I still haven’t seen one being brought to the nest yet unless I’ve missed it in the drizzle.
17.44 At the latest changeover, LJ2 was on the nest. 372 arrived, shouting in his ear.
She then stood on his tail with one foot
and brought the other foot over too.
One of 372’s left talons was momentarily caught in LJ2’s feathers as he stood up
17.45 then 372 side barged him away.
LJ2 got the message and flew off
372 got back on her eggs
20.17 At last, a fish has arrived for 372. She was very happy.
LJ2 had had his share before arriving.
20.18 372 struggled to grip it with her left talons
So switched to her right set and got a good hold.
372 away for a well deserved feed.
21.02 372 ate some of her fish elsewhere then arrived at the tower perch later to finish it off.
She got back to the nest at 21.42
21.44 and took over from LJ2.
