(I am starting a new thread for April because, for sad personal reasons, Korky cannot be with us until further notice so the March title cannot be edited.)
Please read Korky's comprehensive March 2024 intro.
Asha and Brodie
Last year they arrived on 04 and 14 April respectively.
The end of the 2023 season was marred by the aggressive intrusion of BlueKL5 "Klive" (thank you, Fergus). We have no idea if the 2 youngsters were fit to migrate.
We haven't heard anything from HQ but it appears that the cams are not quite ready, despite snaps being posted to Facebook 10 days ago together with a query about the lack of IR for the third year in a row - and the streaming is unsteady and unreliable. When LG issued a warning about a delay to the opening of the season, it seemed to refer only to the Visitor Centre.
The PTZ now
Quote RSPB YT Channel: When the Loch Garten Nature Centre opens on April 15th, this camera is controlled by the centre staff during work hours, so please be gracious if you find it staring at an empty tree! The birds react quicker than the staff are sometimes able.

Asha chased, or was chased by 2 Ravens .
29 April
Good morning, EJFan - I was watching but still tied up in yesterday
EJFan said:Fish @ 5:03!
Fish @ 5:03!
Just the PTZ view as it's a better sight of the fish half and we can see where Asha goes:
Brodie incubating - mainly to show the lovely clear sky compared to recent days:
After a few alert hours, I'm orft again
9:08 pair on nest, male alarm calling
10:33 Asha brings in a big stick and pins down Brodie's head. "Take that!, she says. Bwahaha, it's payback time. A couple of minutes later she brings in another stick and does the same thing. I think at one point she also steps on his head.
13.50 Fish a silvery blue looking fish. Happy to think Brodie has been to either the fish farm at Rothiemurchus, or the pool at Aviemore

13:51 FISH #2. Big! It has been identified as a sea trout, possibly from the coast.
The 13.51 Fish #2 is certainly causing debate on Chat. Salmon? Rainbow trout? Salmon trout? The Spey is in an ideal area with easy access the many lochans, salmon and trout rivers and the coast. All I can say is it wasn't a brown trout LOL
Asha is fish calling, and it's getting very windy.
What a cracking fish, that would have kept her going for a while, mind you, she is shouting good style at the moment!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Someone has added "That looks to me like a blue trout from a stocked fishery. It’s too blue for a Salmon."
Via Google blue trout are "bred in fish farms and released in stocked lakes for sport fishing. It is said to be a good fighter." So it could be from either Rothie or Aviemore.
Well if it’s a good fighter.. well done Brodie
