LOCH GARTEN - April 2024

(I am starting a new thread for April because, for sad personal reasons, Korky cannot be with us until further notice so the March title cannot be edited.)

Please read Korky's comprehensive March 2024 intro.

Asha and Brodie

Last year they arrived on 04 and 14 April respectively.

The end of the 2023 season was marred by the aggressive intrusion of BlueKL5 "Klive" (thank you, Fergus).  We have no idea if the 2 youngsters were fit to migrate.

We haven't heard anything from HQ but it appears that the cams are not quite ready, despite snaps being posted to Facebook 10 days ago together with a query about the lack of IR for the third year in a row - and the streaming is unsteady and unreliable.  When LG issued a warning about a delay to the opening of the season, it seemed to refer only to the Visitor Centre.

The PTZ now

Quote RSPB YT Channel: When the Loch Garten Nature Centre opens on April 15th, this camera is controlled by the centre staff during work hours, so please be gracious if you find it staring at an empty tree! The birds react quicker than the staff are sometimes able.

  • Naughty KL5 taking himself back and trying his hand at the nest!! I have had a look back at the clip around 4.30pm, that Sheila made a comment about. Certainly long, thin, something that Asha was trying to swallow or get rid, off, looked at very like fishing line Hushed Tried to get a decent snapp.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • Oooo, my signature is back.

Question please, how do I post without actually  wanting to reply to a specefic person,  I know I know, but can't think, too long a day!!

I thought it was nest material - you'll get a good look at it here, if only you can wade your way thru the rather long look at B047 (nice-looking Osprey, IMHO)...

    .

OMG Klive, I need a rest already!

It is silly at the moment.  On the rare occasion I've bothered, I've gone back to the OP and replied to that.  We don't have the option Reply to Thread like we used to.

As reported by EJFan - I can't see any mention of ID anywhere.

  • 17:58:33 intruder tries to land on the nest but Asha flaps him off.  It looks like there is a white band on its right leg???  Alison on Facebook thinks it is a BTO metal ring.

I haven't got that on PTZ, it seems to have occurred during the processing time between one download session and the next :(((

Nest cam, not a lot to see:

    Definitely a BTO ring only:

    27 April

Brodie first touches down at 05:10, several changeovers thereafter.

07:08 an intruder flew around/over, only seen distantly on nestcam, not at all on PTZ:

    .

A little episode this morning when Asha chirped and flew off and Brodie sorted nest material around himself, she returned and took over:

I'm not up-to-date and am taking a break already!

  • EGG #3 !!!  At 13:05:36  Effortless.

  • So pleased to see 3. Asha and Brodie appear much more settled this season
