Just thought i would post something to test my setup, I have just read on the YouTube Loch Garten camera that the first Osprey back last year was on April the 4th, do you think this years arrival will be earlier or later?
regards for now
Dave
Cakeboy, nice to see you. The female, originally called Mistle by the folk on the Forum, then officially named Asha by the LG team, returned on 4 April last year. The young male, named Brodie by the team was accepted by Asha by 17 April. If they both return it will be their second year together, and it is likely the male will arrive earlier. Asha arrived on 16 April in 2022. Her predecessor, EJ was an early bird, arriving in March.

Wonderful answer, as always, from Sheila, but worth pointing out that evidence shows that an osprey, having bred once successfully at a nest, tends to return slightly earlier each year than in previous years.. perhaps honing migration skills.. and anxious to return to a successful nest… but this can be affected greatly by weather conditions during migration.
I whole heartily agree with you EJFan!!
I should have added that I hope to see a female on eggs when I descend on 13 April. Good luck for a successful season at the RSPB Osprey flagship reserve.
thanks for the info, ive followed this saga last year. i will also be in the loch garten area in early may
