Brief history: The nest was first occupied by White 08(97) and Green 5N(04) in 2007 who raised 2 chicks. In 2008 they paired again but the nest failed and in 2009 it was unused. In 2010 a new pair, Green 5R(04) and an unringed female nicknamed Mrs 5R, took up residence and over the next four years raised 11 chicks. Green 5R(04) failed to return in 2014 and Mrs 5R paired with a new mate, Blue 28(10) and laid 3 eggs. Blue 33(11) arrived determined to claim this nest and ousted Blue 28(10). Blue 33(11) kicked out the eggs and spent the remainder of the season bonding with Mrs 5R who was then officially named “Maya”. Since 2015, Maya and Blue 33(11) have paired up each year and to date have successfully raised 26 chicks.

We finish as we started:
Morning ALL
Yesterday, periodically checked on the nest and nothing really to report - Maya and 33 continued to shelter from the wind, build their nest, mate and saw a small fish piece delivered.
We are just waiting!!

soon pottering about
Good Morning Karen and Everyone .
Many thanks for all the updates.
We managed to call in for an hour or so yesterday teatime and I’ll try and include a pic!
we left and on our way back to car 33 flew over us about 20 metres over our heads with a small fish at about 18.25. We stopped still to let him go over us! Sadly all to quick to waste time trying to get a picture so just enjoyed that special moment. Not sure he shared the fish as Maya had left the nest but he may have given her a bite off nest
Morning LAM - fantastic you managed to pay a quick visit and see them. You must have been thrilled 33 flying over you.
What a pity no egg for you as that would have been the icing on the cake.
And thank you for the captures - I love seeing your photos as it just makes it all more real, probably because its more personal and we see the surrounding area.
You're very welcome Karen to any pics we manage to get but it's not easy on this new site but will persevere as indeed you and many others have thank you.
Yes it was the closest and best sighting we have had of 33 and he weaved above the power lines which run alongside the path but thankfully we arranged bird deflectors to be put on these last year!
Good news though is we are back at MB today for a few hours so we may have an Easter Egg from the MB nest.
That is very interesting what you write about arranging the bird deflectors last year LAM. My brother actually told me about the power lines. What a great thing you have done - Well Done and Thanks to both of you. I just wish there was more of this done, especially when new cables are erected.
Lovely you are back and the weather seems improved. Can't be much longer until Maya lays her first egg - I thought it would have been Thursday - so fingers crossed it happens when you are there. So eggciting for you. Enjoy your visit.
