Weekly Chat, Sunday December 19, 2010

Hallo all. Hasn't stopped raining here all day - two more days of it - BUT the weather in the UK has been making headlines on the radio and telly!  Will catch up with chat later.

  • Morning all; Quick hallo and read while guest #1 snoozes. Gues #2 arrives this afternoon.

Margobird: So sorry to hear awful news about your sister. It's simply not fair (a useless comment, I realize); even though there's never a good time for this kind of thing, it seems so much crueler at Christmas.  Please know we're all thinking of you and wishing we could be of some help. Take care dearie.

Cirrus: Good to hear from you - and good news too. Hurray!

Take care everyone else; thanks for posts

  • I've just come on again to see if my computer is getting any worse - or better!  It seems to be doing strange things....  When I wrote here earlier, it would not do any line spacing or bold type, or anything, just took ordinary typing.  Have had to give up on posting my pictures from this morning, as I keep getting a message that my discs are too full of memory or something, but I have already deleted several things, so it should be better, not worse... aaaargh!

Alan:  Friend who has two Springers, has both of them in coats at present when they venture out for their walks. She says that apart from keeping them warm, they both get very dirty on their undersides because they are so near to the ground on their short legs!  They seem to love their jackets, so maybe Hamish might  take to one after all.

  • Seems to be working OK at present, wait and see....

My OH has gone up the road to re post Christmas cards addressed to wrong house,  after scrubbing up a whole trayful of potatoes as we decided to bake them and test the oven at the same time.  We must say how very pleased we are that we got such good service.  Pity that we have to be surprised by that  in this day & age.

  • I will shut up in a minute, but just came back to say Son phoned again - again!  He got through to office which had asked him to phone (their letter sent 15th!) and they have got him an appointment for Job Seeker’s interview in Inverness at midday on Thursday.  We are really hoping his car will be fixed, so he doesn’t have the hassle of sorting buses – but he does have bus timetable in case.  Even if he has the car, he won’t try to get here Thursday, as he would not be setting off till after lunch, but he still intends to try Friday – and seems reluctant to go to his Sister’s instead!

Lindy – sorry about your computer – perhaps you need to clean your registry or do a defrag or something.  What will you do with a whole trayful of baked potatoes???!!  Are they for the Carol Singers to keep their hands warm???

Typing that made me think: when did anybody last have real Carol Singers visit (not just little boys with mucky faces looking for money in return for half a verse of “Figgy Pudding – giggle, giggle”)?

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Afternoon all Have just caught up with all the news. Margobird so sorry to hear your devastating news especially at this time of year when most people roundabout are being merry.  Allan sorry to here about your daughter's dog which was very young to have developed that condition.

Yesterday spent the morning clearing the snow away from the garage as I was needing to go out today and luckily it didn't snow during the night so it was still clear this morning. It is still very cold and tomorrow I will have to clear front path as bins get uplifted on Thursday and I will have to make a path as they are lifted from the front of the house. Hope everyone stays well and warm.

There is another message from Richard.

    george g

  • Thanks for telling us about Richard's message, georgeg... OG: We are doing a whole trayful to a) justify putting on an entire oven, just for a few, and b) so that we can save some for another day.... Friend tells me that her sister does it regularly, then freezes them, and microwaves later however many they need!
  • Hi Everyone: Yes my snow clearing at 10.30 last night paid off. I know it seemed bonkers but it was quite warm and light snow was easy to move. This morning it was minus 7.5 at 10am so in my car and away. The part of my trip to Elgin had not been touched and Elgin itself for once was chaos. Luckily parked close to the 2 shops I needed and bribed a boy scout raising funds by packing in M and S to help me carry bags to car.I got to drive for the first time with new snow tyres...amazing difference and well worth the investment.

Margobird: So sorry about your family news and I am sure you will find comfort being part of this community.

Alan: That is so sad about you daughters dog...so young, still a puppy really.

I am sure your choice of coat for Hamish will be a jaunty number. Daughters dog (avatar) being short haired feels the cold and spent yesterday morning playing in the snow and was really chilly when they got back from m orning walk. A nice cup of tea soon sorted her out.

Dibnlib: I bet it feels amazing to get that plaster off...such freedom. Do you have to back to Raigmore for physio?

If anyone is out and about tonight take care and keep warm.

  • MARGO  so very sorry to hear the news of your sisters illness, fingers crossed a cure is found.

ALAN also sad news about young Boxer.

On a lighter note, when we were out driving earlier we passed a car with a Rudolf nose and antlers either side of the windscreen.

  • My pc is doing the weirdest things! Anyone who likes puppies, go to: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-12044632 for 17 puppies!!!!
  • Meant to say before: OG, that pic of the Chaffinch is first rate! Good enough for a Christmas card of your own, I think!
