Weekly Chat, Sunday December 19, 2010

Hallo all. Hasn't stopped raining here all day - two more days of it - BUT the weather in the UK has been making headlines on the radio and telly!  Will catch up with chat later.

  • Morning all,

Very foggy and frosty this morning. Current temp -6.1c and not expected to rise above -5c if the fog lingers.

Annette : Strange to hear you talking about so much rain in your area.

Linda : Thanks for the monday smiles especially the Christmas tree.

Diane : It must have been lovely to see the deer so close to the house.

Auntie : Thanks for the seasonal osprey card.

Djoans : Very wise not to risk the roads today.

Thanks to everyone else for the chat , clips etc.

I am not intending going out today apart from taking Hamish for his walk later. It is becoming a bit of a drag to wake up to ice every morning and now we have the threat of more snow later in the week. These ospreys sure knew what they were doing when they left for Africa.

  • Good Morning ALL. Weather is no surprise. Still plenty of snow and icy with more snow forecast. Nothing we can do about it and there are so many of you in much worse situations than here.

Alan, Thanks for showing us your card.

Annette, Your continuous heavy rain sounds atrocious. I hope your friends have uneventful journeys and you all enjoy your reunion.

Terry, Pleased to hear your carol concert was a success.

Joan, Sorry you are getting so much snow. As you say, it is surprising how quickly, so much snow is dumped.

OG, I was happy for you, that your son sounded good to you, in spite of the car fan belt snapping. I hope he is able to join you for Christmas.

Diane, What a lovely sight to see several deer in your garden. Happy Winter Soltice, Full moon and Total Lunar Eclipse to you also. Have you strayed away from your ' frozen prairie' home yet ? Do stay safe and warm.

Auntie, Thank you for your brilliant card.

Linda, Love the Monday smiles. I would be tempted to want to move one of those books.

AQ, Still trying to work out why your daughter's friend ended up going to Birmingham, instead of the Euro train, which is still running but at a reduced speed. Poor fellow must have been so tired and angry.

Cirrus, Hope you are OK. If we don't hear from you, do have a Happy Christmas.

Have a lovely day, in spite of the weather.

  • morning all:)

sorry for my absence, MIL here and a lot of my computer time has been lost. Just flicking back and enjoyed reading all the posts and photo's. Love Auntie's card, so funny:) thanks

Hope everyoneone is doing OK ish. Thinking about you all the in bad weather. Here it is very calm, chilly but nothing going on. I'm feeling slighted!

One piccy taken a couple of days ago to keep me going

  • Oooooh Gary - those puppies are adorable ... and they are growing so fast :-))

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • Lovely sunny morning – now set in foggy (which was forecast several times over the past week, and this is the first time it actually came).  Birds are busy as usual in Willow tree here at front and on decking feeders and all around back garden– will post latest Blue Tit pic below.  OH is off to town doing various messages – bank, post, collecting an order, fresh food shopping etc.  I’m trying to keep calm while dreading the journey to Doc appointment later – I do not do frozen roads at all well, even though I am only a passenger!  Nasty shock on the BBC this morning, Brian Hanrahan has died (he counted them out and counted them all in) – we were at uni with him – he was in my Economics tutor group in the first year, and then in OH’s Politics classes.

Lynette – pleased the children did well at the Carol Service.  We didn’t venture down the road yesterday, but hope to get to children’s Christmas Eve early service on Friday – don’t do midnight these days.  Our Service of Lessons and Carols is next Sunday.

Lindy – I used to do one large mince pie, because there’s a better proportion of mincemeat to pastry – Mum did it that way, too.  But hadn’t even made mince pies for last few years, so decided to go conventional this year.  Is eldest Son coming again for Christmas – or will you be away at Sweetpea’s?  Liked the smiles – especially the drinks cooler and the Christmas tree!

Annette – have a great time with your friends – and take some time relaxing before the family arrive.

Diane – I was wondering last night if you had finished cleaning the kitchen yet!  You are so clever with your brief but relevant replies – mine always seem to ramble!  How lovely for you to see the deer crossing your land – the kind of thing which makes you want to live on the frozen prairie!  Thanks for the greetings for Winter Solstice, Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse – sounds an auspicious night!!

Auntie – what a lovely card, thank you.  I hope you are keeping safe and warm – and not having to work too hard.

AQ – pleased the Magpie family and friends and relations are keeping you entertained!

Alan and Joan – you both sound very fed up with the cold weather.  I think most people are taking notice of “essential journeys only” this year.

Gary – I see the Pups now have their eyes open – mischief all around now!

Couldn’t choose between back garden this morning

Or Willow Tree 10 minutes ago!

(not the wrong way up – he really was in this position!)

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Auntie: I loved your Christmas card! Brilliant!
Gary: I just overdosed on cute!
    Lindy: I loved the smiles!

OG: Your birdy photos are just fabulous! So sorry that you have to go out to your doctor's appointment. I hope the trip is safe and uneventful. You get your injection today, right? That means you'll feel much better? I'm sure the trip will go smoothly. Let us know that you're safe.

I'm afraid my kitchen still needs some work, but I'm putting everything on hold to celebrate the Solstice tonight. I hope I can see the moon's eclipse. We're due for another storm this evening, but they said it might be freezing rain instead of snow (temps may rise above freezing). I'll start major work on the house tomorrow after my holiday is over. If the snow melts some, I should be able to get to town for drywall and other necessary supplies.

AQ: It's so good of you to feed the little broken-beaked magpies and family. I'd like to see the Mama catch the food in the air. If you talk to them, do they try to vocalize and communicate with you? I'll send you some deer, and you can send me some ducks. I have the photos of your Pacific Black ducks as my desktop wallpaper right now, because they make me happy.

Brenda: Nope. I haven't left the property. I've been hibernating like an old bear. :-) I did take a short walk on the trail back into the woods. Had to turn around when the snow got too deep to manage. Also walked to the mailbox. My garden snow is full of animal tracks this morning. The wildlife have been very busy here.

Annette: Those California storms are very strange, because I, too, thought you were supposed to have La Nina. Your weather has been on our news here.

Joan, Lindy, OG, and other owl people: I thought this clip was interesting because it shows the way the world looks to an owl -- according to their vision. I wish I had the ability to focus that intently -- something I'm going to work on for the new year.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yps7pgq1TAk&feature=related

    Have a good evening everyone.

  • Hi folks.  Loved Auntie's  card, Linda's smiles,  and all the great pictures.  Puppies are so gorgeous and now look like little individuals.

OG Hope your trip to the doctor's was uneventful.  I have to collect and order prescriptions - may try tomorrow if there's no more snow tonight.  We had very heavy snow yesterday evening, resulting in cars being abandoned on our hill, so I felt justified in not having undertaken the journey to Belfast.

I intend setting my alarm to wake me in time to see the lunar eclipse.  When it's dark in the mornings it's tempting to snuggle under the bedclothes and go back to sleep.

I received some advice about holiday treats which I thought might be worth passing on as we're all such foodies.  I'll put some of it on each day until Christmas Eve (I hope!) (Not working - I'm clearly doing something wrong.)

  • Dau#2's Puppy pix - age 9 weeks - collected Saturday so they begin with her having three weeks off work.  Already know simple commands and their names - injections and beginning of lead training tomorrow!

    This is Rowan (boy puppy):

    and Willow (girl puppy):

no sign of the mother's Retriever genes that I can see!

Off to Doc's in about 10 mins - will report back later.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Firstly, sorry I'm going to be hit and miss at the moment, what with the Christmas Season and MIL here:( She got out of Heathrow the day before the chaos and very pleased she did. She had the chrismas pud with her.....

    Joan, thanks:)

OG LOVE the photo's:) so clear and colourful. Hope you get on OK at the docs and getting to and fro. It was a shock as well, for me, about Brian H'. A claim to fame being in the same class.

Linda, loved the pictures. Thought the beer in the washing machine was quite clever!

Diane, love the avatar and thanks for all the info:) Hope you see the moon!

Annette, sorry about all the rain. Watching the pictures it looks pretty grim.

Patriciat, look forward to the tips, as long as it isn't telling me i can't eat stuff! lol

Edit-OG, those puppies are GORGEOUS:))) They are "proper " puppies (Diane, don't look.....)

  • Hi Everyone: More snow today and daughter in Dorset snowed in as no gritters and freezing ice. Very local as in Bournemouth not a problem.

Loved all the puppy pics. not allowed to see them as husband has kiddie security lock on.

Gary you missed the puissance at Olympia...7 foot 3inches..bonkers riders...brave horses

    Stay in and stay warm..
