Hallo all. Hasn't stopped raining here all day - two more days of it - BUT the weather in the UK has been making headlines on the radio and telly! Will catch up with chat later.
We’re both having a break partway through the washing up. He washes, especially when there is heavy stuff which I can’t hold very well, I dry (except same heavy stuff) and we both put away. I prefer him to ask where something belongs rather than guess and I can’t find it next time. We have a dishwasher but when company comes we seem to use a lot more of the non-dishwash stuff and things which are a silly shape and would take up a lot of space. I can’t believe I’ve just written four sentences about washing up!!
George – good to see you again. Sorry you are getting even more snow – a good thing you did your Christmas messages (errands for those outside Scotland) during the week. I hope there are some really nice chocolates in your Christmas box – or do you buy “normal” chocs to share over the festive season? Do take care when you venture out again – no more damaged tyres!!
Alan – pleased the Thunderdog whizzed along and didn’t keep you out too long in the cold.
Brenda – our sunshine didn’t last much past lunch, and we never reached positive degrees. I guess father’s turnip-tops were a country thing – boiled tops of root veg were what rural folks ate for greens in the winter.
Annette – I hope the mud moat is not a reality! Corvid recognition is fairly memorable once you find out. Mine’s a plain chocolate digestive when they next come indoors, please. We bought new Maple furniture for most rooms when we moved here 7 years ago. I wanted a light colour and a modern look to give an impression of space because we were moving from a 4-bedroom family house to a 3-bed (or 2- bed plus study as we have it) bungalow. The lounge does still have our older Chinese Rosewood coffee table and nest of tables, but is big enough to take the contrast with other pieces. And there are Birch veneer shelves here and there, in sets we bought to be cheap free-standing when we rented a few months during our move and liked so we decided to keep them – but they are mellowing to a similar colour to the Maple.
Terry – pleased the concert went well yesterday – a pity some folk had to miss it.
Patricia – pleased you have made a sensible decision, but you mustn’t take risks – just sorry you will miss the carol service. Be careful walking those dogs too!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Congratulations to the Scotland team for winning 'One Man and his Dog'
Just received this e card from the Finland Forum:

Afternoon all ... first time on here today. We woke to about an inch of overnight snow, and it snowed off and on all morning ... but this afternoon we had a huge dump of snow ... about 6 inches in a couple of hours. EDIT - I am reliably (or otherwise!) informed by my OH that it is nearer a foot of snow than the six inches I said!!!
Annette - good to hear you gave in to the Digestives ... mine's a milk chocolate please!! I hope your rain doesn't mean a mud bath in your landscaping work.
patriciat - shame about missing your Carol Service, but better to be safe.
Alan - lovely pic of the wagtail ... and glad to hear Hamish is whizzing along!
OG - good photo of the rook ... they always look very stately ... and a bit cross! Nice pic of your 'feast' ... but I wouldn't like the washing up bit!! I'd never heard the 'Shepherds and their turnip tops' before ... or Eagle-eye's Sunlight soap :-))
Take care everyone and stay safe.
Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

Alan – thanks for sharing your animated e-card. Aaaaaaah! Thanks for eagles – I remember them last year, but hadn’t saved the link.
Joan – that sounds like an awful lot of snow – especially so near the coast.
Son phoned. After church this morning and enjoying a shared lunch after, he swept “his” driveway so decided to start the car because it’s a while since he used it, and the fan-belt snapped! He sounded quite good again today, but hopes he’ll soon hear about an appointment at the Job Centre, so he knows if he can plan to come down here for Christmas.
We have enjoyed a second meal of leftovers from the salad – but started with a Cup-a-Soup to keep us warm! OH ate remaining portion of Pavlova, and I had fresh berries same as yesterday. Only some vegetables to use up tomorrow – will put them in a cheese sauce and have them with fish. Having Monday main meal midday because injection appointment is late afternoon, making it difficult to time cooking for normal dinnertime.
Probably going to watch some recorded TV this evening.
Hi folks, thanks Annette for starting the new week. Sorry to hear you have been having quite a lot of rain.
Aquilareen - lol the "while shepherds watched" spoof. I remember it as: While shepherds washed their socks by night, All seated on the ground, The Angel of the Lord came down, And gave them all a scrub!!
Alan - what a super picture of the pied wagtail, couldn't resist and have copied it for a background. Thanks for the Eagle link, have just looked and they're not there at present. Doing what eagles do I presume.
George - glad to hear from you and that you managed to get out to get the food shopping.
OG - looked like a lovely lunch.
To all the rest whom I have not named, thanks for your news.
Afternoon Carol Service went very well and the children came up trumps with their slot. Quite a festive feel now in Church. Last of the 4 weeks of Advent candles lit today.
Was hoping Matt would win Strictly but it was Kara and Artem instead. PJ McCoy won the Sports Personality of the Year. Didn't really watch it but it was on in the background for OH.

Love the ecard, Alan.
new signature just for Christmas
Just been having a look at the WildEarth Webcams. Taken two pics, both in Pensylvania where its snowing - first one, second one of two deer feeding.
Like the new signature, Lynette!
What a lovely ecard, Alan - thanks for sharing.
Eldest came over today to share a roast chicken with us, I was so busy that Husband did the cooking, including his best dish - roast potatoes. I made lemon meringue pie, and a large mince pie - we saw Delia make one large pie, years ago on TV, and always do that now, and cut it into slices.
Just looked out of the window at the back of the house, and can see that its eerily foggy over the white fields, now. The forecast for the next week is dire, so I feel for those who have to travel in the next few days. Some Christmases will be disrupted for sure.
Handing over to the Night Shift now! Goodnight!
