Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 20 August 2023

Oh, quiet on here... ..... I'm sitting watching the drizzle but grateful nonetheless that I don't have Diane's high temps today, which she has mentioned on Facebook. Take care, Diane.

We're off soon on our journey. The weather doesn't look too great for the next few days, A shame for those looking forward to a break from work, with the Bank Holiday weekend. We won't mind too much- we will still have beautiful scenery and the rolling sea beside us.

Hello all not been on for some time but hope all well with you all.

Not much happening down here but weather has been kind to us and we are about to sit outside for lunch as we did last Sunday as well.

Remembering my OH tonight with a meal out with family - it would have been his 81st and our 55th WA.

Hope you all have a good weekend and for those travelling for a break have a good time and chill out.

Lindy - hope you had a good journey to Wales. The traffic wasn’t too bad when I was on the stretch of that road around Queensferry earlier. I also hope the weather behaves for you.
Lynnette - a rather poignant occasion for you tonight, I hope it goes well.
A friend persuaded me to go back to Burton Mere Wetlands with her this morning. (Didn’t take much persuading!!!) I am pleased to say that I was able to walk further today which resulted in me seeing the 2 cattle egrets which have arrived. We then went to a nearby cafe for lunch. I must admit that I was tired when I got home. I won’t be venturing far over the Bank Holiday weekend though.

I'm glad you had an enjoyable visit, and how lovely to see the cattle egrets!  They should be reappearing near Abberton Reservoir in the coming months.

Clare - the cattle egrets appeared not long after the winter introduction of the ponies to graze and churn up the area with their hooves. How did the egrets know they were back? And where had they been in the meantime? They don’t breed around here as far as we know.
So today we saw cattle, little and great egrets!!!!

Great white egrets are magnificent birds and I never tire of seeing them!

Hebrides Day 4

We woke up to a glorious morning on Benbecula. After breakfast I went for a short walk down to the beach at the back of the hotel. I just scrambled up a sand dune and there was this wonderful deserted beach. Just oystercatchers calling and seals basking.

We set off and didn’t get far until we stopped at a small church in the middle of nowhere. Note the Gallic language. We heard a lot of it spoken on the islands. 

Down the middle of the inside was a long narrow table. Our guide explained that the church elders almost re enact the Last Supper breaking real bread and drinking real wine before going round the congregation with it. I have never seen a church set out like this before.

Then our guide suggested we walk down a lane to see what we found!!! What a wonderful scene.

Rusty - Thank you for sharing the photographs - they're lovely. I have never seen a church set out like that either - very interesting.
