Monday 10 July
Recap from yesterday -
The black plastic band was gone from #1 chick’s leg, presumed to have happened late Saturday night.
#1 chick fledged aged 50 days old
Flora brought in a huge fish which took over 2 hours to be eaten!
For ID purposes, trying to tell #1 and #2 apart with #1 not having the black band now, it’s clear that #1 (right) has a much paler necklace and may be male.
I’m positive bossy #2 with a heavier band is a female. It’s easier to see on the black n white image. 04.16

Chick #2 and #3 are on the nest and both go to Harry. Chick #2 (left) takes the fish.
chick #1 arrives
As chick #1 approaches chick #2, #2 grabs the fish and plastic sheeting at the same time. This results in the fish being dropped.
#1 collects it and has a feed.
There’s been an intruder around this morning.

She starts to feed but is distracted by something above, a chick sees their opportunity to grab the fish.
Flora grabs back
They pull and the chick wins.
The chick to the left jumps in and grabs the fish
They each pull for over half a minute
The chick to the left wins and claims the fish.
13.13 Intruder chipping
14.29 the camera view was changed, zooming out. I was just thinking that yesterday that with the chick fledging, we missed a lot of the helicoptering as the zoom was too close.
The operator adjusted the zoom in and out to find the desired distance.
