Egg No. 3 laid 26 April - Hatched 1 June  (37 days) Sadly, this little chick died on 3rd June. It coincided with LJ2 having a leg injury and unable to fish at the time. I don’t know if this was the sole reason, part of the reason or something else. RIP little one Purple heart

The family of 5 for a couple of days. Bob 3, RIP, in between #1 and #2

  • 21.12 LM6, I wonder what you are looking at?  Beautiful bird. The chicks are hidden behind her.

    Here

  • Friday 21 July

Good morning Grinning The chicks slept with the remainder of the fish on the nest.

    04.57 Mari up first

05.15 She decides to have some fish for breakfast.

    05.16 LM6 pays a visit

05.17 Dilys is practising her flying

05.21 She’s doing her fast wing beating

05.43 Mari walks away from the fish

05.46 LJ2 comes to collect it

05.50 The chicks hear see/hear goings on and pancake. It sounds like a crow cawing and a gull calling.

05.51 LM6 can be heard calling and the chicks get up.

06.14 More flying across the nest from Dilys

06.21 LM6 returns, she is calling to LJ2

06.21 He duly returns with the fish

LM6 takes the fish and flies off with it.

  • 06.38 LM6 returns with the fish

06.40 Dilys asks for a feed

    Dilys moves a little closer

    06.44 LM6 changes position

    07.16 Dilys feaks her beak

Mari watches proceedings from the back of the nest

    07.20 LM6 carries on eating

    07.21 Dilys takes some more

    07.21 LM6 munches the tail

  • I really thought Dilys would fledge today, she’s so close. Her height off the nest is increasing. 11.28

Mari was managing higher lifts today too. 11.31

    It’s pretty windy out there.

    14.17 current scene.

  • Saturday 22 July

Good afternoon Grinning it looked like a blustery start to the day. Wind and rain.

    05.09 LM6 paid a visit

The chicks were keen to do some flying practice.

    05.26 Mari

Dilys was helicoptering out of view at times.

    05.27

Better views from the PTZ camera

    05.26 Mari first

    05.26 Then Dilys

    05.27

Surely she’ll go today?! Perhaps both together! Smile

  • The young ospreys are 57 and 55 days old today.

  • 05.52 A bedraggled LM6 arrives with a fish

    It was very lively

05.53 One of the chicks showed interest (I’m guessing Mari!) and after a couple of attempts, took it from LM6

The fish managed to wriggle free

    It bounced across the nest

and had a lucky escape into the water below.

    LM6 watched it go

A learning curve for the chicks!

  • 06.44 LM6 brings a fish to the nest again. Similar to the previous one.

She keeps hold of it it this time to feed the chicks.

07.25 A large bird flew past in the distance followed by another - LJ2?

    LM6 stops feeding and watches

07.36 LM6 discards the fish and flies off

38 seconds later, LJ2 has arrived on the nest and takes the fish away.

  • 09.43 More helicoptering above the nest

    09.50  Then dual preening

LM6 arrives and calls for LJ2. He comes in with a clump of nesting materials. 11.20

He lands directly on a chick’s back.

The chicks gets up promptly and shakes him off.
