LOCH GARTEN - JULY 2023

I start this thread with a heavy heart, as Brodie hasn't been seen at all on Friday 30th June. The last fish delivered to the nest was at 21.11 on 28 June, over 48 hours ago. Brodie was last sighted at 09.10 hours on 29 June, over 36 hours ago.

Chick 1 hatched 'early morning' on the 4 June and chick 2 overnight on 6 June. One egg didn't hatch (maybe number 1?). There were lots of intruders during the month of June, including KL5, and last year's male Axel on the weekend of 17/18th.  Brodie has disappeared before for a couple of days, and no fish were delivered over the first weekend after hatching on 10/11th June so maybe we should keep the faith and cross all eyes, toes and fingers that Brodie will come good, recover from whatever keeps him away from his nest and chicks, and deliver a stonking fish first thing on 1 July.

  • Found problem my antivirus was kicking me out sites
  • I was at Loch Garten during my usual 2 weeks annual pilgrimage to the Cairngorm National Park Grinning

Here are some photos I took from the screen in the Visitor Centre....  had a wee blether with Fergus and Alison.   Sadly it is just not the same for me with no EJ and Odin Cry although it is great that the nest is occupied and chicks hatching each season.

and some of the nest with my own wee camera

You can see its a good sturdy tree that the nest is in now

Alas my camera doesn't lend itself to super zoom shots Joy

I see the frustrations of posting on here have not changed much.    It used to be if a photo was too large it told you when you tried to upload, now it waits until you finish the whole post then tells you your photos are too large, so had to re-size them all.  Grrrr....  Upside downPersevere

  • Bless you, Mary. Wonderful photos as usual, and how lovely to get the nest, old nest and the PTZ in context.
Lovely to know the 'girls' met up too. Just wish I could be with you on one of your trips, once more.
Yes, it is good to know the historical and iconic nest is now housing a family once more, and this year feels much more comfortable with Brodie and Asha, than it ever did with George or Axel! I would still love to see more of a 'relationship' develop between the two, but at least Brodie sticks near the nest and with the PTZ we know where he is LOL.
    Thank you!

    Cry

Asha does have more personality than some females and she's very nice looking, but no-one can rival EJ - and Brodie never comes in for a mosey like Odin used to do, Asha bossed him away from the start Frowning2 How will he behave when she's gone?

Glad you captured the most beautiful fish of the season so far Hugging

Thank you, Mary - we miss you here, and I miss my virtual cruises, and nothing's the same any more Broken heart

  • Thankyou Mary for a lovely update from LG. I remember when I met up with you there on, either my 1st or 2nd trip, we had a good natter. Yes, the same for me, not the same now, I know we have to move on, but when we had such an iconic pair, it is hard. Never mind we have a good mum in Asha and Brodie is a good provider, and now 2 lovely chicks this year, even although one is a bully! Hopefully over the years this pair will bond well and raise lots of wee Ospreys. I wish them well.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Could be bigger for a flounder but not very small if you catch it at the right angle Blush

Only a long view on the PTZ:

We've had some long close-ups of Asha and I'm hoping to do a little tribute... one day... when the energy is summoned Stuck out tongue winking eye

  • Little vid, nothing much going on besides Asha yacking:
