LOCH GARTEN - JULY 2023

I start this thread with a heavy heart, as Brodie hasn't been seen at all on Friday 30th June. The last fish delivered to the nest was at 21.11 on 28 June, over 48 hours ago. Brodie was last sighted at 09.10 hours on 29 June, over 36 hours ago.

Chick 1 hatched 'early morning' on the 4 June and chick 2 overnight on 6 June. One egg didn't hatch (maybe number 1?). There were lots of intruders during the month of June, including KL5, and last year's male Axel on the weekend of 17/18th.  Brodie has disappeared before for a couple of days, and no fish were delivered over the first weekend after hatching on 10/11th June so maybe we should keep the faith and cross all eyes, toes and fingers that Brodie will come good, recover from whatever keeps him away from his nest and chicks, and deliver a stonking fish first thing on 1 July.

  • I wonder what that is!  It's not a brown trout.  Is it another salmon?  I can't see the protruding lower jaw!!  But it does have dark spots on it, and could well be salmon.  Fisher folk, any comment??

as usual Harry stays well away, and bides his time.

15.49 Sid steps back and stretches his wings.  Harry gets his turn

    16.36  Asha's turn

    17. 18 having looked for dropped pieces and cleaned her beak, Asha flew off

She wasn't on the old tree behind the nest, nor on the dead tree to the left, nor the camperch

17.53 she returned to the nest perch from the left so may have been further to the left on the dead tree near the PTZ

18.24 she flew off again.  I lost her near the tallest tree on the skyline to the left-ish!

18.25 she returned with her reward!  Another stick - a shortish thick piece of tree with an awkward thin branch coming from it.

18.39 Asha surveys - up to date now

  • I give  in Sheila,  Virgin Media having abandoned me I'm struggling to manually configure Outlook (even though it was VM's fault that my Outlook screwed up). My brain and my soul are just Dunin   and I'm beyond  anything. But, I don't think i'll be calling the chicks Sid and Harry (sorry Scylla)

  • Evening all, another working day so only on catch up now. Never mind that's me on 2 weeks annual leave, only working WTF, it is 2 and a half weeks, much needed. No plans, things to do at home, may have local trips about, (may get to see the Puffins at Dunnet Head) just looking forward to me time. Anyway, glad to see the boys have had a few fish today, shame that Sid is so horrid to Harry, I wish he would give him a good pecking and see how he likes it!! Great updates, thanks all.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Well captured, Korky! Is that four fish today or five. I must go back and check. They certainly won't go hungry!

Its not my fault you can type quicker than me

I was just lucky that time, TREVOR Stuck out tongue winking eye

Asha nearly stymied us with a new stick:

I've outdone myself today - the above has been sat sittin' stagnatin' for hours and hours!  I was doing a 3-fish vid but got tangled up in it and collapsed.

So... that's Salmon (Asha) and Sea Trout (Brodie) introduced to the nest.  Does that tell us anything about climate change? Grin

I make it FOUR, Sheila - all good ones, some even better!

  • Difference in eye colour - it's not just the light, it was consistent over time.  Let's have a look in different weather as we get a chance.
