LM6 LJ2
So far so good! The first 2 chicks are doing well, the 3rd just hatched this morning.
LJ2 does what he is told and at 10.25 arrives with a large headless fish.
LM6 decides to bring it to the cam side of the nest and blocks the feed. Later on in the feed, LM6 moves to reveal the 2 chicks. #2 left, #1 right.
#2 seems to be getting a better feed this time.
12.30 another feed from the fish. #1 ate more to begin with then had had enough, #2 got a good feed when #1 turned away.
#2 feeding
14.30 LM6 pulls the fish end over to feed the chicks again.
# 1 to the front, #2 sits behind. It seems to be content to let #1 eat first then have its turn to eat later.
#1 lays down, #2 pops it’s head up for a feed.
Backtracking, I missed out a feed in between the last two!13.10 Was a very relaxed affair. Both chicks didn’t get up properly to ask for food initially.
#1 did ge5 up as the feed went on. #2 stayed down
but still got some pieces.
15.06 LM6 stretching over the chicks to get another bite of the fish.
16.28 This is the fish that just keeps giving! #2 is up first.
#2 got a private feed whilst #1 stayed lying down.
#1 did join in when it was ready.
By 16.48 #1 had wandered over to where mum was.
LM6 came to this side to eat a tricky part of the fish.
#1 was trying out its wings
16.55 LM6 broods #2 in the nest cup. #1 stays out alone behind LM6.
17.20 LJ2 arrives. He does a double take when noticing his chick lying at the side of the nest.
#1 didn’t move until LM6 picked up a fish tail around 17.36 and #1 moved over to the right and stayed there.
At 17.40 LM6 did her nest to cover both chicks by having #2 at her head end and #1 under her tail. #1’s wee head is just peeking out!
My wife and I are joining the NWWT guided walk at Gors Maen Llwyd Nature Reserve on Thursday morning. This is the side of the reservoir away from the Llyn Brenig Visitor Centre and osprey watch point, and is said to give a good view of the nest. Here's hoping. Details here if anyone is interested.
It took until nearly 19.00 before LM6 had both chicks under her together again. 22.00 and I haven’t seen another fish delivery.
