Two healthy chicks hatched successfully from eggs two and three. The first egg laid was non-viable and, hopefully, it will be able to be retrieved from the nest, at the time of ringing, as to ascertain the reason why.

During the middle of May, Laddie sustained an injury to his flank and NC0 was without a meal for 87 hours due to him not being able to hunt. It was pure relief when he finally arrived with a fish, at a critical time too as the first chick had just hatched. Laddie excelled himself on the evening of the 25th, bringing in an absolute whopper of a fish which fed both chicks and adults multiple times throughout the evening, during the night and well into the next morning.

The end of the month saw some 'difficult' behaviour from #1 on its younger sibling, not only restricted to mealtimes either. With longer gaps, on occasion, between fish being brought to the nest by Laddie (probably due to his defence of the nest and area from intruders, of which there had been many last month), #2 has been the subject of dominance and aggression. We can only hope this begins to lessen in the coming days and weeks.

NC0 has been doing a sterling job with feeding both chicks ensuring, as much as possible, that the youngest receives its fair share as well. She has also shown great maturity when defending the chicks and nest from intruders too - she is definitely a force to be reckoned with!

  • Morning Karen and All

I checked the weight of Dyfi's Berthyn(19) as I knew she was a huge female, she weighed 1.79kg at ringing.  PF4 is the heaviest chick I can recall on this nest.

Still waiting for breakfish to be delivered. Chicks are alone, at present, after NC0 headed up to the cam post at 7:03

Hopefully, not too long to wait until Laddie brings the first fish of the day. BFN

  • The cam zoomed in on NC0, PF4 and PF5 after I left for work this morning (Pics edited in)

NC0 had left for a comfort break

    PF5 yawned

    Cam zoomed in even closer!

    "You alright, sis?"

NC0 landed above the cam. PF4 looked at her

Another wing cuddle from PF5 to PF4 as the cam panned out

  • Laddie delivered a small fish at 9:11ish

    NC0 feeding PF5 first

Some dual feeding. PF5 had eaten quite a bit before this

NC0 eating the fish tail at 9:23

PF5 definitely had the majority of the fish!

    NC0 called for more

I can't find anymore fish deliveries after a quick scroll through the footage. Scene at 13:12

  • Questions being asked about whether PF4 has an injured wing after ringing.
Apparently it was noticeable after this mornings feed.

    Hi Richard,

I didn't notice anything myself as I was in a rush at lunchtime, but PF4 didn't appear to be her usual self during the feed. Also during the feed yesterday evening, I thought it strange that she didn't really want anything to eat.

This from around 12:05 today, her left wing wasn't extended when doing a wing stretch

Hope it is nothing to worry about and whatever the problem is, heals quickly

    Thanks Richard!

Just before Laddie delivered the fish at 13:48, when NC0 was shouting, PF4, front, extended her left wing

When she stood up, she did an overhead wing stretch

I couldn't capture the fish in Laddie's talons

Good to see that PF4 had a good feed this time

    PF5 had some fish too

  • Another fish from Laddie at 15:35 - he's coming in at the wrong angle to get a decent pic of the fish!

    Fish in NC0's right talons

PF5, left, had found a scrap or two on the nest and was eating while NC0 proceeded to feed PF4

I don't think PF5 received anything from this feed

A lovely wing stretch with some tentative flapping, from PF4

  • There was another fish delivery at 20:04

PF4 flapped her wings 3 times before heading to NC0 to be fed (pics show her range of movement)

PF5 didn't approach NC0 for a feed. The fish lasted for around 4 minutes!
