Two healthy chicks hatched successfully from eggs two and three. The first egg laid was non-viable and, hopefully, it will be able to be retrieved from the nest, at the time of ringing, as to ascertain the reason why.

During the middle of May, Laddie sustained an injury to his flank and NC0 was without a meal for 87 hours due to him not being able to hunt. It was pure relief when he finally arrived with a fish, at a critical time too as the first chick had just hatched. Laddie excelled himself on the evening of the 25th, bringing in an absolute whopper of a fish which fed both chicks and adults multiple times throughout the evening, during the night and well into the next morning.

The end of the month saw some 'difficult' behaviour from #1 on its younger sibling, not only restricted to mealtimes either. With longer gaps, on occasion, between fish being brought to the nest by Laddie (probably due to his defence of the nest and area from intruders, of which there had been many last month), #2 has been the subject of dominance and aggression. We can only hope this begins to lessen in the coming days and weeks.

NC0 has been doing a sterling job with feeding both chicks ensuring, as much as possible, that the youngest receives its fair share as well. She has also shown great maturity when defending the chicks and nest from intruders too - she is definitely a force to be reckoned with!

  • Morning All,

    8:11 Still awaiting breakfish

    Must be off. BFN

  • There was no breakfish today but brunch was delivered at 10:54

NC0 was very vocal as she moved the fish; #1 nibbled at it

#2 received some fish while on NC0's right side

NC0 did move her position, #1 received some more

That was interrupted as NC0 had to defend briefly

#2 did sidle up to NC0 to receive a solo feed...

...before NC0 settled into dual feeding the chicks

NC0 feeding #2 some dropped pieces from tidy up at 11:16

There have been no further fish deliveries.

NC0 left the nest for a break at 13:04. Scene at 13:10

Oooh, that could well be - thanks so much! I'll ping an email off to Lowes to see if they can confirm.

Have a wonderful holiday, Glider, I hope you have a fantastic time!

    Thanks Sandra, will do. Sunglasses

  • Fish at 15:00

    Cam zoomed in

Once again, NC0 was very vocal, letting all and sundry know that afternoon tea had arrived!

#1 was in a hurry for the feed to begin and pecked at the fish

The feed got started almost 2 minutes after its delivery!

#2 received a few pieces after waiting

Then #1 showed dominance (no aggression).

#2 backed off for a few seconds, #1 began tackling a piece of fish - more offered to #2

    More dominance from #1

    15:12 #2 on the right

    15:18

15:20 NC0 swallowed the fish tail

  • Thanks, Richard - # 2 had a wonderful feed from this one!

NC0, who had been on a comfort break, could be heard first, screeching on her way back to the nest, and landed in time to receive the delivery!

    Laddie had a full crop

    #2 waited patiently

    At last!

NC0 got into her stride to give #2 a private feed

NC0 gave #2 the fish tail as well at 16:18 - that fish didn't last long!

NC0 called for more afterwards, along with #2!

  • Thanks Sheila, it is off now - 18:19

  • Hopefully a nice big fish will be left by the ringer

  • I still had the 'old' stream on my laptop after putting it on 'sleep'

NC0 left the nest 40 minutes before the cam went offline

The chicks were alone on the nest from then and up until the cam was switched off. All was quiet

At 19:38, after scrolling to the end, the message said that 'the stream had ended 96 minutes ago' - making the switch off just after 18:00
