LOCH GARTEN JUNE 2023

Link to May 2023 thread

Asha is the proud parent of 3 eggs, the father of which being dubious but probably URM - now called Brodie - as we hardly saw NN2 (for whom we wish all the best elsewhere) be accepted by Asha. Brodie had a lot of trouble fending off intruders which has made him a bit flaky in the fish catching and delivery department. Poor old Asha didn't eat for over 2 days last week. The main intruder was KL5, who seems to have stopped hanging around so much now, which is good as we approach hatch date and the need for fish will ramp up.

A scylla-super-snap of the happy parents-to-be

 Also, courtesy of scylla, here are the laying dates;

25 April - egg 1

28 April - egg 2

01 May - egg 3

  • More great observations Sheila   Thank you

Is any one  able to post a link to the PTZ cam for  LG please?

  • As requested, here is the link to the PTZ cam, CIRRUS.  It's good to swop between the two, often to get a different picture of what is going on.

  • Been out all day at out local music festival, caught up now. Way to go Brodie, more fish and being allowed to watch, maybe sometime, he will be allowed to feed. Cracking video with her antics with the sticks. The baracades are so high now, no chance of anyone falling out and if any more are taken in, no chance of anyone getting in!! Things going well here, lots more to see and follow.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • SHEILA       GrinningWonderful and very many thank yous     Hugging

  • This site is seizing up this morning, almost as bad as the first of the month routine.

On a happier note, last night's supper - Brodie is keeping up the good work Blush

    EDIT

#2 didn't do well but Asha is feeding frequently so I don't think there's a cause for concern:

    09 June

07:01 - Brodie with a decent breakfish, it's just the fly-ins on both cams:

  • Scylla worse than the 1st

I started at 7am just got on???

    SYAL

  • OK That explains that . Thank you Korky . It's going to be harry roasters here this PM so I must tackle a much needed but horrible job on the stone wall at the bottom of my garden. (it's callled ivy , heavy sigh)

  • FISH !!! !!! !!!

    EDIT

The PTZ was zoomed in on Asha surveying her babes:

It didn't zoom out in time to catch Brodie in the air, so this air shot is from the nest cam - see how different the fish looks:

  • It seized up so bad on me late last night I quit and went to sleep, probably about 5 hours before Trevor tried to get in. I love the portraits you’ve made, Scylla. Brodie is shaping up to be a devoted dad.

07.01     Scylla       Fish #1 from Brodie.  #1 osplet got the major share

07.02.48                 Brodie flies off while Asha feeds the osplets and herself.

Asha was very much aware of #2 this time.

07.12                      Feed over, Asha tidies up.

07.14                      Asha broods/incubates.  Will #3 egg hatch, or is it #1?  Will we every know!/

07.29                      Asha takes a comfort flight

07.31.30                 Asha returns, with contact cheeps.  She starts another feed from the fish.

07.42                      Feed over, Asha settles having moves a stick out of the way.

07.46.35                  Brodie flew in, stepped down the rim and while Asha was brooding, he removed the fish and flew off with it.  Asha called at him as he arrived, but not as he stole the fish and flew!

07.56.06                  Brodie returned, fishless!  Asha got up and complained.  Brodie stepped towards the cup, while Brodie remains on the perch beyond the nest.

08.40                      Asha calls now and again, while she stands, preens, looks around.

08.42.01                  Brodie flies from the perch.  Asha watches him

08.44.23                   Asha becames alert.  An osprey can be seen flying around.  Brodie landed on the nest, intruder calling, briefly.  Asha remained standing.  Osplets are up, expectant for food.

08.45.14                    More intruder chipping from Brodie.  Intruder not seen.

    Brodie goes after the intruder

09.26                      Asha has been standing for ages.

09.2636                  Brodie landed, the perch on the nest, for the first time I think.  She asks for fish.

    09.31.08                  Brodie flew away.

09.37                      Asha flew for a comfort break

09.38                      She returned.  An osplet head can be seen.  Asha checks for left overs in the cup, but I'm not sure she found any.

10.05                      Asha has remained standing on the edge of the cup, mainly preening.

10.17                      Asha flies off.  PTZ zoomed out, but didn't search for the adults.

10.19                      Asha returned.  PTZ zoomed in

10.20.32                  Zoomed further in on Asha and osplets

10.23                      Asha found an old? Piece of fish and fed herself.  It's skin and tail, I think.  She doesn't feed the osplets, although one is clearly interested.

10.27.56                  Asha gives some bits to the osplets, but not much.

10.47                      Asha prowls the nest, and stops on the sunny side of the nest.  Mumbrella is back!

11.11                      She has been preening again, and starts to call.  Brodie must be on his way.

    11.12.30                  #2 Fish.  Headless.

11.13                      Asha gently fed the osplets, Brodie cleaned his beak.

    11.15.15                 Brodie intruder chipped.

11.14                      Brodie intruder flapped, but didn't mantle.  Asha continued feeding the osplets.

11.15.41                 Brodie flew off – in chase?  Asha stopped feeding the osplets and watched

11.16.23                  Asha resumed feeding the two osplets, feeding both, keeping the occasional look above.

11.28.56                  Asha stopped feeding, looked above, mantled and intruder called

11.30.27                  She called and mantled.  An osprey flew over the nest.

I had been watching on nestcam, but checked PTZ.  It zoomed out, and you can see the intruder flying over and around the nest.

11.31.06                 Osprey seen flying from behind, then beyond the nest.  Asha was very unhappy about it.

11.32                      She continued to call in a distracted way.

The intruder could be seen flying in the sky and over the nest, but one or both might have been Brodie.

11.34                      Intruder is still bothering Asha, flying in the sky, beyond and then over the nest.

11.39                      At last she is quiet and yet keeps an eye on the skies.

11.42                      Asha is on the far rim looking around, checking for intruders then turned her attention to Fish #3.  She had a brief feed herself before she was aware of an intruder.  One foot on the fish, she looks out, behind the nest (nest cam).  I could see nothing on PTZ.

11.49                      She turns round and brought the fish nearer the cup, but

11.49.51                 Brodie landed, mantled and screamed.  Asha winged him off, as another osprey could be seen flying beyond the nest.

11.51                      Asha returns to the fish, grabs it in her talon and eats.

11.56                      She drags the fish again to feed both herself and the osplets.  #1 is up and nearer and facing towards Asha so got the first feed.  It was more of a feed for Asha than the osplets.  She would stop occasionally to check the skies.

12.13                      Asha still has the fish in her talon, but keeps stopping to check around her.

12.28                      Feeding of all three stopped.  Asha is very uneasy and still keeps an eye around her.

12.31                      Something is above her, but she doesn't react.

    12.42.04                 Asha takes flight.

12.43.10                 Asha returned… with a chirrup and another awkward stick!

12.57                      It all seems peaceful on the nest at the moment.

12.59                      Asha picked up the fish again, and fed herself for a short while.

13.11                      She wanders towards the cup on the north side, turns towards the east, getting her tail caught on the X sticks blocking our view (nest cam).  She checks the osplets, turning around again, and stopped to be Mumberella again.

13.30                      Live – Brodie is on a perch, but not sure where.  I can't see him on nest cam on Odin's perch and it doesn't look like the bent tree beyond the cam – PTZ view.

13.40                     Asha fish called, briefly.  Brodie ignored her
