LOCH GARTEN JUNE 2023

Link to May 2023 thread

Asha is the proud parent of 3 eggs, the father of which being dubious but probably URM - now called Brodie - as we hardly saw NN2 (for whom we wish all the best elsewhere) be accepted by Asha. Brodie had a lot of trouble fending off intruders which has made him a bit flaky in the fish catching and delivery department. Poor old Asha didn't eat for over 2 days last week. The main intruder was KL5, who seems to have stopped hanging around so much now, which is good as we approach hatch date and the need for fish will ramp up.

A scylla-super-snap of the happy parents-to-be

 Also, courtesy of scylla, here are the laying dates;

25 April - egg 1

28 April - egg 2

01 May - egg 3

  • Blimey, I was heading for bed and have now fired up the laptop.

So 22.43.20 as per Canuck is the place to check.

22.25 Asha was aware that Brodie was around.  She was watching out to the right beyond the PTZ cam

22.36 she is calling.  It sounds fishing soliciting, crossingly.

22.40  she is not a happy bunny., pauses and calls again.  Half food soliciting and half intruder calling

22.42 she is still low in the nest but looking around calmly and checking her brood.

22.43.15 she intruder calls ferivously.  Intruder flew over her and both disappeared.

22.43.18 a bird swoops over the nest, left to right. startling Asha.

She turns and flies up to meet the intruder at it flies back over the nest and both disappear over the left side of the nest falling thru the nearby trees which bounce in their wake.

23.23.23  two birds passed by the nest to the left towards the old nest and PTZ cam report from Chat not seen by me.

23..40.18 in the dark Asha returned to the nest, looking very wary.  Osplets ignore her return.  She is checking all around her.  She stand looking around the nest. (PTZ)

23.46.17 she makes her way slowing over the osplets (replay is on slow!!) at last. but she is very unsettled.

23.53 I dash thru to Live, and Asha is settled, but still very much awake after her adventure/experience.

    Time for bed.

  • Thank you CC and Canuk for the updates. My goodness, what a couple hours the nest has had. I wonder where Brodie is in all of this. I assume it was a female intruder, given that as a rule it is male on male, and female on female.
23.56 Asha looks much more settled, and I'm definitely off to bed!! Let's hope we done have any more incidents like that.

Mega!  And you, too, SHEILA, I wish I'd followed your example and checked my downloads before packing up, because there was a warning, and a couple of clicks would have prevented the huge traffic jam that appeared when I got the laptop out at 07:00...

I wonder what the optimal overnight setting would be for the PTZ, allowing for all possible events?  Zoomed in so close seems sub-optimal to me, we can crop if an ultra-close-up is req'd, accepting that it won't be as clear, but we would still have got the blue blur of the leg-ring.

I did this snap before seeing that CC had done the identical one (I keep thinking about your fantastic Quicktime(?) video from years ago, that suddenly became unavailable).

On the nestcam download there is a glitch @ 23:14:16, so that Asha appears suddenly on the nest - I've recorded the same sequence from the YT live stream rollback and it's exactly the same, so it wasn't part of my traffic jam.

Asha has been calling sporadically for a long time, I do hope she can see Brodie.

    She just flew!

I'm doing a vid but taking my time.

    Asha is back, shouting.

  • Blue-ring is back, PTZ is trying to follow it but only just captured a bit... that must be who Asha has been shouting at.

Some snaps to go along with, not necessarily in the right order:

    It is AX6 !!! www.facebook.com/.../

I've been speculating A** and feeling sick at the thought.  OMG, the mystery man Axel, with his disappearance and return at the end of last season, what has he been up to so far this season?!

    Thank you, Valerie !!!

I think the PTZ is looking at Brodie now - unless it's the Brodie lookalike reported recently, and heaven forfend it's a female lookalike Astonished

I am being multi-interrupted, hope to produce something soon!

  • 17 June late evening intrusion.

Think of a caveat and it will apply - I'm zonked already and it's too much effort to list them.

Except - I wouldn't have detected the flyabouts without your guidance, CC Kissing heart

And I would not have detected them without Chat or Canuck, @scylla! BTW, long ago, I was using RealPlayer to record and upload to Photobucket. Now, I can use neither! I don’t remember the circumstances you mention, but my videos were never as professionally produced as yours!!

Wow, what a concerning development. Maybe Asha went and had a serious talk/ear bashing with AX6 about the circumstances, and that’s why she was gone so long. And I wonder where Brodie was…Thinking
