LOCH GARTEN JUNE 2023

Link to May 2023 thread

Asha is the proud parent of 3 eggs, the father of which being dubious but probably URM - now called Brodie - as we hardly saw NN2 (for whom we wish all the best elsewhere) be accepted by Asha. Brodie had a lot of trouble fending off intruders which has made him a bit flaky in the fish catching and delivery department. Poor old Asha didn't eat for over 2 days last week. The main intruder was KL5, who seems to have stopped hanging around so much now, which is good as we approach hatch date and the need for fish will ramp up.

A scylla-super-snap of the happy parents-to-be

 Also, courtesy of scylla, here are the laying dates;

25 April - egg 1

28 April - egg 2

01 May - egg 3

  • Asha away for a quick break, back with more sticks. She has a quick tidy of the moss and sticks, turns around and ploiters through and tramples the two chicks. Looks up and around  as if to  say, what just happend? They look okay.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • Thank you, CATLADY - I can see the PTZ cam and have been wondering what she's up to and thinking I should do a catchup but am too hot and tired - I took some time out to do some Starr Ranch barn owls for my Californian e-pals, that's finished me off.

    See y'all later x

  • I really don't have the stamina to check the cam properly, so being lazy I checked Chat, and I don't think any more fish have been noted or any ore intrusions.  But if you have time it's worth checking out the PTZ can,   Asha looks so beautiful.  I just wish EJ had been seen like that.

The chicks keep popping up.  Boy, are they growing now.  Brodie and Asha are really caring for them well.  Dare I say far better than Axel and Asha as a pair.  Asha has so much more confidence this year.  She has really matures, and Brodie has really stepped up to the plate too.  Despite initial concerns he is providing well and keeping intruders at bay.  What a boy!

It must be cooler tonight.  She is brooding earlier.

Night all, unless I pop in!

  • Aargh! Just came back from out of town to check excellent reports here and on Chat.

Asha flew at an intruder suddenly and hasn’t returned since, in over 15 min.

The intruder rocketed past and came back, whereupon Asha performed an acrobatic maneuver and disappeared chasing it. Chicks chucking to themselves and home alone at dusk. Flushed

  • Canuck saw it, and has a very good analysis of what might have happened, including that the second osp might have been different than the first.

I’m hearing intruder chirps just now so either Asha or Brodie are around the nest.

  • Canuck reported a blue ring seen on PTZ. Sorry, had to hit pause to catch it, so the s-cap is dark…
