LOCH GARTEN JUNE 2023

Link to May 2023 thread

Asha is the proud parent of 3 eggs, the father of which being dubious but probably URM - now called Brodie - as we hardly saw NN2 (for whom we wish all the best elsewhere) be accepted by Asha. Brodie had a lot of trouble fending off intruders which has made him a bit flaky in the fish catching and delivery department. Poor old Asha didn't eat for over 2 days last week. The main intruder was KL5, who seems to have stopped hanging around so much now, which is good as we approach hatch date and the need for fish will ramp up.

A scylla-super-snap of the happy parents-to-be

 Also, courtesy of scylla, here are the laying dates;

25 April - egg 1

28 April - egg 2

01 May - egg 3

I hope that you don't mind that I posted this to the forum.

Far from it!  And thank you so much!

I won't be able to follow up on your details from yesterday because (as so often) I had another tech crisis last night so I don't have the relevant footage any more Tired face

Off I go to try to find some sightings from this morning.

Well, chaps, we have a second hatch!  I reckon that's egg #3.

  • WOW what a FISH ie...    super dooper Brodie

Why not !  ?   I've got an oil painting by a local artist in The Lake District   that  has  a lovely frame (framed  by the artist ) with a super crinkly frame like this one . Is that why you don't like it Scylla.  Well, dear, regardless it's a great shot   and I personally  like the frame

  • Ye  hah  as   those south of  you might say Canuck    !

Great post and a huge thank you to you. Welcome to the Osprey forum - all fans very welcome here    Grinning

Also please take a look at 22:54:47 on the main camera. This fell within the time span (22:53:48 to 22:55:16) where asha had backed away, looked surprised and stared intently into the nest cup. You can see a wee thing flopping about but I felt it was too murky to call it a hatch at that time. Please correct me if need be. Thank you.

I'll have a look on YT rollback for that, Canuck.  In the meantime, I've done some "easy" bits, because if we showed all the little possibles and probables we'd have such a long vid Astonished

What amazing eyesight and hearing you must have - and dedication, of course Blush Yellow heart

I'm hoping the LG VC will come up with a hatch time but it's going to be difficult even for them, surely?!  Be that as it may, doesn't #2 look strong!

Would this make it egg #3 @ 36 days?

Calculating that the hatch was 06 June?  I believe that #3 didn't have exactly easy early days, so being a little late isn't surprising.

  • Welcome Canuck. I think we have met before.

  • Welcome,  Canuck to the LG osprey family!  All folk and comments welcome here, and what amazing scrutiny you have put into looking at the cam.cam replays.  Thank you so very much.  It is very useful having folk in different time zones contributing here!!  CC has been a part of LG for many years now too.

Thank you, as ever, Scylla for the proof video of TWO CHICKS!!

    Such good news.

Asha is much more confident this year, and Brodie is turning into a dedicated mate.  If I dare say so, far better than Axel ever showed.

13.42  Another fish from Brodie!  It was another whopper!  He was followed by an unseen intruder.   Asha was telling him to go away, and he is chipping intruder alert.  Asha feeds herself first.

But Brodie keeps an eye on the unseen intruder

    and then two bobbleheads

13.50.10 Brodie flew off with an intruder chip, presumably to escort the unwanted visitor away.  Asha paused the feeding to watch, keeping an eye on things around her.

13.57  After a spot of tiding up, moving sticks, she settled, but continued to keep and eye on the skies above.

And that was his second one - the first was like a mini-version of yesterday's whopper.  Surprisingly, it looked as tho Asha accepted it gratefully and fed it to the chicks - perhaps it was younger and tenderer Wink

    13:42 nestcam and PTZ views.

EDIT - See CANUCK's post below - this was yesterday's whopper having been taken away and brought back !!!

  • Hi all.

That big fish at 13:42 was actually the leftover from yesterday.  Brodie snuck onto the nest at 13:14 and with a quick grab and fly, stole off with it.  He returned it at 13:42.

Just goes to show you how massive it was to begin with if it still looks large now.  Asha, the bobs and now Brodie have all had good noshes off that whopper.
