LOCH GARTEN JUNE 2023

Link to May 2023 thread

Asha is the proud parent of 3 eggs, the father of which being dubious but probably URM - now called Brodie - as we hardly saw NN2 (for whom we wish all the best elsewhere) be accepted by Asha. Brodie had a lot of trouble fending off intruders which has made him a bit flaky in the fish catching and delivery department. Poor old Asha didn't eat for over 2 days last week. The main intruder was KL5, who seems to have stopped hanging around so much now, which is good as we approach hatch date and the need for fish will ramp up.

 Also, courtesy of scylla, here are the laying dates;

25 April - egg 1

28 April - egg 2

01 May - egg 3

  • Great sightings Scylla & a customary poo shot too, thanks!

  • Good evening all, caught up after another work day. Well done Brodiefor another catch. It is a shame he is not being allowed to help, he seems keen. Maybe later on he will get a wee shot? Will we have another chick, the next days will tell.
Thanks Tiger for the reminder about the eggs etc, and to all for the continued updates, videos and pictures.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • Fabulous fish at 21.54

  • Well caught, Korky. It looked huge on the PTZ, probably another brown trout.
Asha fed the growing bobblehead, whose head appeared above the baracade. Has something at the front been moved today? Brodie stood and watched until 21.59, just before 22.00, and flew off. Asha finished the feed, and settled.

It wasn't easy to get a good shot on the nestcam, so well caught indeed, KORKY.

    It sure was a whopper!

    Don't mention the frame.

Daycam is on, no activity noticed yet.

  • Hi everyone.

This is my first post. I didn't know this forum existed until recently. What a fantastic site this is. The photos are absolutely amazing. What a talent you have Scylla!

I am in Canada and am 5 hours behind you. Consequently, I usually look at the 2 cams until 11:30 pm my time which puts it at 4:30 am next day your time.

Tonight I "saw" the 2nd egg hatch. Here are timestamps I put on the chat. I hope that you don't mind that I posted this to the forum. I thought you might like it for your records. Please feel free to correct any errors.

    Canuck
hi all. i think another egg has hatched. asha has been restless and looking into the nest cup from 22:36 to 00:09. i'll post some ts below

    Canuck
22:31 to 22:38 she is fixated on the nest bowl. lots of shuffling and digging in it.

    Canuck
    22:45 to 22:47 some preoccupation

    Canuck
22:53:48 to 22:55:16 backs away. looks intently at the cup. seems surprised. i think this is the major event here. at times there appears to be a double sound but not sure.

    Canuck
23:33:04 i think i hear the sound of 2 chicks but once again not sure

    Canuck
00:08:52 on the ptz cam, looks like she is eating part of an eggshell but hard to tell with the way the camera lights the screen

    Canuck
and at some point she had her head down in the nest bowl and i heard her eating something very crunchy but i can't find the ts for it.

    Canuck
22:54:06 there is a sound and she looks to her left, then at 22:54:11 there is another sound and she looks to her right.

    Canuck
02:59:43 2 heads pop up on the ptz cam. wooooohooooo!!!!!

    Canuck
can really see them on the ptz cam. we have 2 chicks!!!!

    Canuck
asha has been up and down all night on the ptz cam.

    Canuck
btw, 22:36:11 is the sound of her eating some eggshell

    Canuck
02:59:41 is the accurate time on ptz cam

By the way, I thought maybe that the pip started yesterday June 5 at around 18:49 when I thought I may have heard dual sounds. Please see below for what I had posted to the chat.

    Canuck
18:49:58 to 18:50:05 please check this time. i think i hear 2 chicks making noise. 1 is the louder sucking noise of the older chick but i think i also hear very soft whimpering from a 2nd chick.

    Canuck
i don't think it is the birds in the background. and the whimpering seems to be at the same time as the sucking noise.

    Canuck
18:13:24 and 18:13:42 also appear to have a dual sound but not sure. during this time asha was really intent on looking down.

  • Welcome Canuck! I’m just south of you in NYS, so we’re in similar time zones across the Pond.
It’s very exciting to observe a hatch isn’t it?! Or an egg being laid. Not that a huge fish is anything to scoff at either. Thank you for the times. I’m sure Scylla will catch whatever was there somewhere in between her cams. (We call her MC for the Master Control now after Mike dubbed her that title.)

It’s bed time for me but I’m gonna go for a peek before I hit the sack…Grin

  • Only stills in which nothing can be seen, but marks the time when I saw two moving bobbing osprey heads. Kissing heart

  • Hi CC:

You can actually see the 2 heads pop up a bit earlier on the ptz cam at 02:59:41.  You can't see the beaks on both of them at that time stamp but it is clear there are 2 in the nest cup.

On the main cam they pop up at 04:05:51 / 52.  Both heads clear at that time stamp.

  • Also please take a look at 22:54:47 on the main camera. This fell within the time span (22:53:48 to 22:55:16) where asha had backed away, looked surprised and stared intently into the nest cup. You can see a wee thing flopping about but I felt it was too murky to call it a hatch at that time. Please correct me if need be. Thank you.
