LOCH GARTEN - May 2023

Link to March/April 2023

.

After a start/stoppy kinda season, we now have settled couple "URM" (until LG give him a name) and Asha, or Mistle as some would prefer.

Asha is the proud parent of 2 eggs, the father of which being dubious but probably URM, as we hardly saw NN2 (for whom we wish all the best elsewhere) be accepted by Asha.

URM and Asha are similarly marked but distinguishable by certain differences which I may slot in here but I've lost them for the time being.

Asha (R) is looking rather small in this snap because she's crestfallen due to no supper:

Because Asha did so much work on the nest before she had a partner, there hasn't been a lot for URM to do - but he has quite frequently brought in nest material - and his fish provisions have been regular and willingly handed over.  He's a promising Osprey dad so far.

  • As usual a lovely summary of this mornings events Sheila. I had to tare myself form the Lowes nest earlier on, after all the events yesterday and today and go and do some housework. All done, well all that is getting done, washing out in the sun, so do not feel guilty about being back at the nests!! I work WTF so can only get on after dinner, so enjoy dipping in and out when I can. A lovely day at LG today as well. Will not be too long before we see the first bobblehead.

Edit - Now that I have looked  back and see it was the 25th March we had the first egg, a wee while yet (19ish) days to wait. You forget when the Lowes and Manton Bay birds are back so much earlier.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • Brilliant, SHEILA, thank you so much! ... Not least for:

Recalling the (those were the) days of Billy Bunter and Just William Grin

  • Some of Asha's morning stick-work:

The evening fish - it will be interesting to see if his routine (not that he really has one) changes if/when we get a hatch - I hope it does!

This is Asha lifting off with it:

  • Wonderful capture. So well caught .  Thanks Scylla

  • 16 May

Asha took her dawn comfort break nearly 15 minutes earlier than yesterday:

  • Intruder - unseen:

Packing up time here, SYAL Blush

  • I haven't been thru the cam properly, but I can say there was shared incubation after day break and an intruder was around just before 05.00.
At 08.00 another intruder, this time with a Darvic, who tried to land on the perch, but was flapped away by Brodie. I guess it could have been NN2 just trying his luck again. I'll try to catch up later.

Video just prior to your post.

It landed on perch - if I crop it and use Windows magnifier I can see that the ring number can't be NN2, but more than that... nope!  BTW, how many warnings to I need?  If it hadn't been for your report I'd've skimmed right past, with no indication of any activity whatsoever Astonished

A couple of flyabouts and soe spittin-n-polishin, Brodie not seen... by me !!!

Latish lunchtime - Asha's eyes followed something fascinating but not alarming in the sky:

2-minute flyabout, returned with almost nothing, if anything, in talons:

Returning from 2-minute flyabout w spindly sticks:

According to me, Brodie hasn't been around since early morning - but I have no confidence in that assertion !!!

The sight of the cam currently buffering has reminded me that there was at least one long buffering episode earlier - it doesn't show up on YT LS rollback when that happens, the footage is simply missing - so there could have been things going on that we're not privy to.

  • It's been very quiet today apart from the early intrusions. I haven't been thru the cam further since this morning, but I had the the odd skip, and I haven't found Brodie either. It was windy this afternoon so perhaps he has had a problem fishing. Hopefully he will bring in a fish supper.
    Chat doesn't mention anything, either
