MANTON BAY - MAY 2023

Continued from Manton Bay March/April 2023  

Details about the Manton Bay nest can be found on the season’s opening post.      

The season so far:  Blue 33(11) returned March 16 @ 12:58 and Maya on March 19 @ 06:54.  Maya has laid four eggs on Apr 4 @ 15:52, April 7 @ 09:04, April 10 @ 07:03 and April 13 @ 08:08.  The first egg is expected to hatch around 12 May.

  • 33 brought a nice live trout. He took some time letting it die, started eating.. and offering some to #2. When all the kids approach, maya intervenes and takes charge of the fish.. which wasn't quite dead yet, even after Maya fed from it for a couple of minutes.
    It trashed a bit through the nest. When #3 recovered but fell down #1 was not happy with the whole thing and gave 3 a short beating.. 

    Funny moment when #2 moved away from 33 at 14:11:39 it splashed a nice PS,, and falling down:

    Summary of today's events up to 17:00:

    03:37  Maya sound asleep with the chicks safely tucked under her

    04:41  33 arrives with remains of a fish which he leaves back of nest and soon collected by Maya

    04:42 #1 shows some dominance

    04:49  All being fed

    06:51  33 arrives with another fish

    06:56  another feed

    09:25  getting warm, chicks seeking shelter

    11:37  33 feeds the chicks

    13:35  Chicks snoozing in the sun

    14:10  33 arrives with another fish

    14:12  more fish for the chicks

    33 flies off and the chicks continue feasting

  • Blue 33(11) is on a roll :-) 4th fish for today at 19.00
    And a very good dinner for all the chicks

  • Good morning.. well.. 33 was on a roll last night and brought another (5th!)

    So now we're having a nice breakfish for everyone

    00:50  Maya snuggled down with the chicks - fish laid out for breakfish

    03:46  Maya takes a break 

    03:52   After about 20 mins, she returns

    04:13  33 arrives

    04:14  33 grabs the fish and soon flies off with it

    04:50  Fish is returned

    04:53  33 cleans his beak as Maya dishes out breakfish

  • It is so funny seeing the growth rate in these chicks, they are huge here compared to the days old ones on other nests. Smile
    Glad to see everything going well, despite the flappy fish!
  • Morning ALL - yes Glider, apart from Lowes, compared to other nests the chicks here are huge and growing every day :-)

    33 keeps a hold of it - it is flapping wildly

    but it gets loose

    sadly the cams are playing up so limited captures
