Last season it was decided to restrict live streaming to one cam only (no PTZ) and with no IR for nightcam - this was because the pair who'd been so promising in 2021 had apparently been scared off while they were still bonding, so advice was taken from Roy Dennis on how to avoid unnecessarily alarming the birds and that was the result.
We trust that "normal service will be resumed" this season.
On the 10th of April 2022 our female from 2021, whom Mike had named Mistle, returned - and two days later her partner AX6 Axel duly arrived. Both were spotted by Ailie and CRinger, and both of those talents we have lost - the latter due to the unwelcome renaming of Mistle to Asha, which the rest of us have accepted... because we had no choice
Breeding commenced late, and Axel wasn't the best provider nor the best nest-builder we'd ever seen - nevertheless the pair went on to fledge two beautiful chicks, one of whom tragically died thru, a necropsy determined, salmonella infection.
Asha left very early and we thought Axel had gone early too - but he made surprise appearances until quite late (dates anyone?).
I'll have to do it myself then - Axel was last seen on 10 September @ 11:09, when he flew off after first a visit to the nest and campost, and then a 5-minute preen on the perch.
"Axel", Blue AX6(16) male (yes he does have strong chest markings), a single chick (possibly from 3 eggs) hatched Glen Affric, near Beauly, seen Lossiemouth 2020, then at LG in 2021
"Asha"- Female - Unringed - partnered Axel in 2021.
Chicks:
Blue 1C2 Male
Blue 1C1 Female (died)
Sometimes Asha had to be quite assertive to get Axel off the eggs - always a good sign

Ohhh, me too Oldshoremore. Very much me too

Understatement of the year, that.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Yes, so true Alan, we will always remember them, although it is so exciting to see our birds return and new ones coming to the nests, it is always reminder of them.
A huge hello and welcome back CC and Oldshoremore, great to see you again. We all await with excitement in the hope that Axel and Asha return to this iconic nest.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Another longtime lurker here back for another year (I’ve followed this nest since Olive and Ollie). Lovely to see you all again and so sorry to read on another thread of the passing of Patily. Thinking of her family and friends at this sad time. Looking forward to a new season at LG and hopefully some chicks again this year. Back to (mostly) lurking for now…

How super that you are back, Oldshoremore

I don't think any of us will ever stop missing them, no matter how fond we get of new residents
Freebird66 said:I have to ask about EJ. Was she the matriarch as Maya is to Rutland?
She most certainly was, Freebird, and she was one half of a pair generally recognised as the most beautiful, in their own ways, male and female Ospreys on the planet

I was too late for Henry in person, but have loved being regaled with praise for him over the years I've been here

How can you say that, 25mac? I see you every year and you have made a very supportive impression on me, especially when I might have got myself into a bit of bother - whether you know it or not
HOPPY HANK - thank you for the confirmation of the email address - but it took all my courage to email them yesterday, I dare not try again. Anyone else have a go?
.
I do hope that all you self-professed lurkers won't hesitate to chip in this season - there are so many cams online nowadays, it's getting very, very difficult to keep tabs on them all - oh for the days when Moffer (RIP) was here and she and others were able to be glued to LG and snap and video every little micro-event *sigh*
Wouldn't it be nice if Axel & Asha were early this year? It's the waiting... ... ...
The only birds I picked up on the nest today was a Mistle Thrush pair, one of them only popping into view briefly. I'd have cropped closer but it goes so grainy.
EDIT - "The only birds... ... ... was..." ??? Oh well, never mind.
Both of the LG cams - Osp & Gos - have been very flaky this morning, and it's wet 'n windy!
The news blackout continues. Yes, I have even checked their FB page.
