Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

Sorry, only just spotted this. Their flight silhouette is very much like that of a large gull - long, slender wings in a shallow W shape. As it gets closer, though, the four 'fingers' on its wingtips are a dead giveaway. Talking of gulls, they'll mob ospreys if they see them so that's also worth keeping an eye out for.
