LOCH GARTEN - July 2022

Date of ringing - interestingly the Dyfi chicks were still relatively young when they were ringed on 29 June. They were 34.8; 33.8 and 32.1 days old.
In 2013 Oighrig was 42 days old and Breagha was 39 days old.
2014 Millie was 42 days old, Sesca 40 days old and Druie was 37 days old

I won't be sticking my neck out to suggest when our two might be ringed! But I do wonder who will do it this year!

It's been raining for a while now. MISTLE is brooding the chicks and they are well tucked under her. I don't think it's been too heavy, and there is no wind.

Still raining, now more steadily. MISTLE calls now and again. I can't see there was any sign of #4 yet. I'm off now.

The question is....... will one of them be sat tagged?

You are not comparing like with like. The reason why Oighrig, Breagha, Millie and Sesca were ringed so late is that they were satellite tagged. Ringing has to be left late for satellite tagged birds. The ultimate cut off point is 45 days as after that there is too big a chance of the eldest bird jumping out of the nest. 

In 2010 due to a number of factors the Loch Garten chicks were not ringed or tagged.

Yes!! I won the RSPB Loch Garten naming competition!

21,03 #4 FISH I have no idea of the size, and AXEL left almost immediately.
