Many thanks to AG who wrote this preface to the Llyn Brenig thread for us (below)
Llyn Brenig is a reservoir on the border between Denbighshire and County Conwy in North Wales. It is managed by Welsh Water; the osprey project is a partnership between them and North Wales Wildlife Trust.
One pair of ospreys raised a single chick here each year from 2018-2020. Neither of this pair returned in 2021, when the nest was taken over by 2 Scottish birds, LJ2 (male) and LM6 (female), both 2018 chicks. The nest was vandalised the night after LM6 had laid her first egg; while the two could not continue to breed they did stay close to the site until normal migration time.
A new nest has been erected in 2022 with additional security and a streaming camera is in place. A new hide has also been built.

The chicks’ full crops after the feed around 12.20
LM6 flew off for a comfort break after the feed. LJ2 must’ve been watching nearby and managed to get back to the nest first to claim the remainder of the fish!
Been a while since that last fish. Ospreys have been on intruder alert in the afternoon, maybe that’s upset LJ2’s fishing.
Watching and chipping as unseen intruder is overhead.
Fish delivered around 21.00, nice sized sea trout which LM6 happily received.
LJ2 stayed to watch for a few minutes as LM6 fed the chicks. Unfortunately our view was blocked for the duration of the feed.
The feed lasted just over 10 minutes and LM6 settled onto her chicks to keep them warm, leaving the fish beside her.
Approx 21.39 LM6 got up to feed her chicks again. It was such a big fish! Happily, we can see the chicks this time.
Feed last night 10.06.22 at 22.30. Only one chick up for it. There was another feed before this where both chicks fed.
See how close the chick wanders over to the fish to get fed.
Early morning feeds off the same fish. I was surprised LJ2 hadn’t taken it away.
New fish delivered 08.07. LM6 is already up and holding yesterday’s fish so we now have TWO to choose from!
