LLYN BRENIG

Many thanks to AG  who wrote this preface to the Llyn Brenig thread for us (below)

Llyn Brenig is a reservoir on the border between Denbighshire and County Conwy in North Wales. It is managed by Welsh Water;  the osprey project is a partnership between them and North Wales Wildlife Trust.

One pair of ospreys raised a single chick here each year from 2018-2020. Neither of this pair returned in 2021, when the nest was taken over by 2 Scottish birds, LJ2 (male) and LM6 (female), both 2018 chicks. The nest was vandalised the night after LM6 had laid her first egg; while the two could not continue to breed they did stay close to the site until normal migration time.

A new nest has been erected in 2022 with additional security and a streaming camera is in place. A new hide has also been built.

  • Glider I don’t think it matters at all, better duplicate reports than none at all in my opinion. Today I’m on my iPad, so my screengrabs are dire but they give a flavour of what was going on. Hopefully someone might be able to do a video of the shenanigans. I just wish there was a time stamp on the feed.

Well my webcam feed is so poor that any observations need to be taken lightly.

Mine's so poor that I've swtiched it off - so I can't help with an intruder shenanigans video.  Your reports are gratefully received Hugging

So many of the cams are playing up, it's really worn me out behind the scenes.  It's not my internet, because it's not ALL the cams dropping out, only some (too many and they're making such a mess!).

  • Llyn Brenig posted on FB that the intruder was Blue 416 from the Lake District
  • Thanks Jill, it’s alway exciting to find out who it is! I don’t have Facebook so can’t keep up with what’s on there. Grinning

I was watching the nest live at around 17.20 and both adults were on the nest. They then started intruder calling, LJ2 was mantling and LM6 stayed glued to the chicks, I never saw another bird and it just lasted about 5 minutes. Maybe Blue 416 is still in the area.
  • Scrolling back, I see a 3rd fish was delivered to the nest around 16.20.

    Look at LJ2’s beautiful tail!

    LM6 quickly took the fish

and started feeding their chicks, who had been enjoying a bit of a rest in the sunshine.

The chicks fed well, with #1 getting more to begin with

and when #1 was full up, it lay down and #2 continued to be fed. It has been a good day for them so far.

  • And the day just got better - Fish number FOUR delivered approx 19.25

After landing, LM6 showed some aggression towards LJ2 before taking the fish. (She had chased him off the nest earlier as well when intruders were around)

She was still shouting at him as she was feeding the chicks. He flew off after a few minutes.

After the chicks were fed, they lay down

and positioned themselves to get tucked in for bed.

  • Pouring this morning  Always a worry when there are such young chicks

  • A big flapping rainbow has just arrived, oooh get control of it.

One chick up feeding, the other is down but that could be because the tail keeps bashing it. Come on little one.

  • Well the glitching feed is not helping but the female has eaten the head and innards but has now sat back on the chicks. The bigger may have had a few morsels but the little one I think missed out. Confused.com here
