Lindybird/dibnlib:  Just read that standard poodles are groomed that way to keep organs and joints warm in winter.  (Apparently cold bottoms aren't a concern, at least for owners.) I also read that in Germany, way back when, they were trimmed because they might sink in water (huh? used as   hunting dogs?)  Another site claims the elaborate style came about during the reign of Louis XVI, which would explain everything.....  Apart from all that, grooming their coats is apparently very labor intensive, but surely there was an evolutionary reason for all that hair?  Wonder if anyone has asked the dogs how they feel about it all.

PatO:  Sounds like a lovely walk you had with your friend; the weather does make a difference.  Hope it keeps up for you.

AQ:  I'll be interested to see what happens with Mr Entitled. Also, what kind of reception he'll have if he does get to play....     Re all those holiday gatherings, apparently Boris was way ahead with his "bring your own booze" business meetings.  Was listening to the BBC World Service yesterday where another MP (I think) called him "dead man walking.'  :-)

ANNETTE - you asked me how son in law feels about all the travelling - he works for an international company so has little choice. He would much prefer to work in the North sea area but has to go where he is needed. He will be away for about six weeks - last time the Australia manager extended it by a couple of weeks though.

I'm just about to start reading Jacqueline Winspears autobiography. I have read and enjoyed all the Maisie Dobbs books and waiting for the next one :-)

Just spoke to Dau #1; her doc phoned last evening - diagnosis from scan is a prolapsed disc in her spine, so she now awaits the next stage - consultation with specialist. She is a lot better than she was, and quite good while moving, but still has pain in the night so she wants to follow it through in case it gets bad again. G Daughter (22 next month) has announced that she isn't relly leaving home - just going to work (although it is a permanent live-in contract with her own flat provided) so they must not touch any of her stuff or give her room away!

I also am very sorry that you are unwell, DIANE. Some good advice given from others on here. I hope you feel better soon, and can keep warm.

Thinking of LYNETTE. Hope she is coping at this sad time.

Good news from OG. An interesting sounding job for the G daughter.

Thanks for news about poodles, books and bracing walks. I don't see many poodles these days.

I think I have finally sorted out our ongoing communal gardening problem. We will amicably part with our longtime gardener, who would prefer to work flexibly on different gardens now anyway. He will receive a good bonus.

ROSY Hardly any poodles seen here....think it is mostly poodles crossed with something else now. My cousin had 2 small ones. She died a few years ago after many years of serious illness and Alfie and Harry were great company for her, as they now are for Tom, her husband.

Hello folks. Not been on for some time as sorting my OH's affairs out. We are seeing the FD tomorrow so should have some idea of when the funeral is.

I will look at the blog at a later time but hope all of you are keeping well and safe. Will catch up with news later.

I see Andrew is being cut adrift to face the music on his own....oh well.  Is he still a Prince if he's no longer HRH?  

ANNETTE – I saw news from across the water regarding mandates: “the policy an improper imposition on the lives and health of many”. Excuse me. As if covid is not an improper imposition!!!

There have been calls for our defence forces to step in to replace those off sick with covid. Health workers, delivery drivers, whatever. I muttered to OH that I would send the pollies into hospitals; they might learn something.

Dau emailed a pic of the smiling Trio in a park with icecreams, captioned “Post vax”. Aussies aged 5-11 have only been able to get first jab since last Monday.
