Ringing Blog >>> Meet our newly ringed osprey chicks - LR1 and LR2
Last month, we saw all three chicks hatch but unfortunately, the third one very sadly passed away after surviving for just over two full days. Laddie and NC0 continue to nurture their two remaining chicks. Long may the good weather, as well as Laddie’s effective hunting, persist so we can continue to watch these wonderful osplets thrive.
Morning. There have been two fish deliveries - both by Laddie
7:00
Just prior to 9:30, NC0 was alarm calling/chipping/mantling at an unseen intruder. She took off from the nest and flushed another from the birch to give chase
She came back and continued to alarm call/mantle. Threat was soon over but she did stay on alert for a while
9:44 Second fish delivery
It will be interesting to see if NC0's changed behaviour (ie catching fish) continues today

13:12 Chipping/alarm calling heard. Chicks were watching the sky
13:20-13:30 Not for the first time today, NC0 defended the nest and chicks from an unseen intruder.
NC0 to the nest
13:45 Laddie delivered a fish. On landing, he chipped/alarm called, NC0 mantled
After leaving the nest, Laddie could be heard chipping
NC0 fed LR1 and LR2
15:57 Intruder call (didn't sound like like the usual alarm) as NC0 left the nest
LR1 and LR2 pancaked
IMAGICAT
Yep!
NC0 saw the fish was inbound while above the cam (shouting!) and came to the nest
Love LR2's expression!
Sorry Alilie, I wasn't watching at the time. I've scrolled the footage to the time just before your post and can't find anything, unfortunately. Oh for a timestamp on the LS! lol
