Poole Harbour Osprey Project 2021 Season

Sorry I'm so late - unvoidably delayed.

These are bits 'n pieces I found up to just before noon, mostly sound-only.

Early afternoon activities.  Don't mention the sound, I've been working and unworking on it for fruitless hours

It's so good to see that at last CJ7 has someone to bond with. It looks better every day the way they are together, exchanging fish and bringing in nesting material albeit somewhat haphazard. All going well for next year and hopefully a start of the Poole project. Alison must be delighted.

Several heavy cambumps late afternoon/evening and I ignored them.  I'm up to here with it today.

Spent another brilliant morning at RSPB Arne watching our pair interacting. 022 caught a fish and then displayed with it.

Wonderful sight, Alison--thanks for showing us! What time of the morning was that, please? And please remind us when CJ7 was last seen last year? Just wondering if we might be down there a bit too late to see her next month, although we did see the Rutland Ospreys in previous years about the same time as when we'll be in Dorset this year.

Hi Ann, it was from about 10am onwards, but that coincided with a high tide, which is important. I’m not sure exactly when CJ7 departed last year, possibly around the third week of August. When are you planning to be down here? Even if she has gone, though, there should be migrants passing through the harbour well into September.

Thanks, Alison,10am sounds fine, but I understand that a good time could be any time, depending on the tides. When we were staying in Porthmadog for several seasons before the pandemic, we had a flat overlooking the estuary, and we had noticed that huge numbers of fish came in along with the rising tide. The water just below the flat had large numbers of fairly good sized fish roiling along in it in small groups as the tide came in--a curious sight for this landlubber. I'll PM you regarding our travel dates.
