Weekly Chat, Sunday, December 5, 2010

Hi everyone: Have a nice Sunday. Don't forget to catch up on last few entries of previous week - AQ is havng a hard time sleeping coz of the heat!!

Daughter here for the night; catch up tomorrow.  :-)

  • WENDY  a friend lives at Tomatin and works at the Iain Charles in Grantowm and she has been stranded. Now she has found a long way round but gets there in the end. She came up to town yesterday to have snow tyres put on so that will help.    Wonderful pics of the phessies. Know you have Brigadier and dierdrie, do any others have names?

MARGO  Glad to hear of Billys tree house but still hope he finally makes it to yours.

  • Good afternoon dibnlib makes me reailise how lucky I am not to be stranded and unable to go anywhere.  Very, very cold here and I have just been topping the bird food up again before they go to roost.

I would love Billy to accept us and make his home with us, don't know whether this will happen though.  I watched him this morning after he had fed and drunk a bowl of milk.  He always has a wash after this and the next time I saw him he was skipping round one of our lawns like a spring lamb so maybe he is not as old as I thought.  The main thing is he seems to be coping.

  • Afternoon all,

Thanks for the pheasant pics Wendyb. I expect they will be getting through a fair amount of food.

This morning we went on a shopping mission to Tesco. It was not as bad as usual surprisingly enough with not too many screaming weans, trolley bargers or staff obstructors.

Did anyone see the tram crash in Coronation Street last night. I thought International Rescue were going to appear at any minute. LOL

Our local weather station had another record low last night of -8.7 and todays top temp has been -1.9 and is already on the way down. Hamish has had his walk so off to watch the snooker.

  • Dear Diane, My deepest sympathies are with you at this sad time.

  • DIBNLIB: I have decided if the journey isn't important it can be put off. We needed tyres and there are no snow tyres to be had over this way so had ordinary new ones put on yesterday and even they have made a difference. I have snow ones on order and will have them fitted as soon as they come in. I know it is double the expense but there is no price on safety. Missing the gym as the roads locally and the Speyside way are sheet ice so a no go for a good walk.

No no more names for the pheasants I think enough is enough and both my girls think I am totally potty and I don't want to confirm their suspicions any further.

MARGO: I am sure you will get there with Billy. You may find he is part feral not that you will be able to tell as can't get that close to him. My 2 strays I was talking about earlier were part feral according to my vet. It is all to do with the colour of the pads of their feet. Lucy the little girl was very feisty and always aloof and never liked being picked up. Sam was just Sam known in the family as "Fat Cat" as he was on steroids for a stomach complaint and they made him a tad tubby.

  • WENDY  Friend had hers put on by a place in the Longman. Apparently it was the only garage who would give her 2 tyres, everyone else insisted on the full set. She had been told that if she didn't get them yesterday morning they would sell them to someone else as they were the last 2 they had. She thought they were just trying to put the pressure on but from what you have said it must have been true.

Friends of ours found 2 kittens left in a box on the beach (waiting for the tide to come in grrrrrr) they adopted them and called them Ebb and Flow!!!!

  • DIBNLIB: The Vauxhall garage is happy to give us 2 and they are hopeful for this week. We have a service plan with them and you get a discount on tyres. They also have some nice girls in the service dept. We bought the car in Inverness but I just didn't get on or like their servive dept. The dealership in Elgin so different . The new ordinary tyres have given a lot more grip so I will have to be patient.

As I said our 2 kittens were thrown in a ditch....I really can't understand what goes through peoples minds when they do something like that...it would haunt me forever...but I suppose that is where the likes of you I differ from them.

  • We had a very thin sprinkling of snow last  night, which froze, so it was like a skating rink outside this morning. Winter arrived with a vengeance but the Autumn hasn't finished yet. OH has just spent a couple of hours clearing leaves yet again, but the trees are  still holding on to some leaves, whilst there are still mounds of snow where we cleared it to the sides of the drive.

Good to hear that the rain didn't arrive and England won the cricket test in Australia.

Margo, Pleased to see that you are feeling better. We could have been to see the veteran's tennis in previous years, at the same time as yourself. I do enjoy it.  Could this be the first step to Billy Whizz trusting you, if he has now made a home in your tree.

Wendy, Lovely photographs of all your pheasants.  Our pheasant is called Alphonsus, our daughter named him, but he has never allowed any other pheasants, male or female, into our garden. He comes to the door and shouts so you just can't ignore him. The females are made to stay on the road and he gets extremely annoyed if I go to feed them !!

Terry, Well done on being selected for Bassenthwaite. I am so pleased for you.

Alicat, So pleased that OH's health is improving and that you are getting a night's sleep.

Just went out to lock garages and it is bitterly cold. So sorry for you who still have the deep heavy snow and extremely low temperatures.  Stay warm and safe.

  • BRENDA H: Yes good news about the cricket...where has all this brilliant play come from as I am sure they were written off before they set off for Australia.

The Brigadier is a total gent as in the spring and summer he lets his ladies eat first!

  • Upgrade to the servers has been postponed until next Tuesday, 14th December.
