Weekly Chat, Sunday 28 November 2010

Ah. Lovely to meet you, Lynette & Dibnlib. [Pics on previous week's thread.]

Gorgeous pics of snow Wendy, Alicat & Osprey. But I bet you are not thinking "lovely"!!! My nearest to snow was some grey slushy roadside stuff in Tasmania 40 years ago.

Tiger I think I have Gary’s puzzle solved. Alas I can only award you 2½ out of 5 on the brain teasers. I was being diabolical this week. Until Friday then . . .

Linda Successful shrunk pics. The walker’s seat - what a wonderful way to remember someone.

Oh no, Auntie, minus temps already.

Alan Love your intermittent "busy pics", the shivery one, the dreaded leaf blower & the migration.

A bit shivery here today, expecting 20 C max again. I’m not complaining. A quiet day for me. Yesterday I helped Dau2 washing, wiping, cleaning, etc as per her list. G-kids did minimum possible. Brats. After lunch Dau & Sil went shopping while I guarded the fort. I think they were out longer than necessary but I don’t begrudge them that. The brats are really rude & unhelpful. GS greeted me with "what are you doing here?" Hello and nice to see you too! They spoke to their mother on Skype - what a lot of complaining & false info. Grumbling that Sil put passwords on computers. Well Miss14 did abuse the privilege. She is proud of doing badly in final exams. Alas these days kids don’t repeat a year at school. It seems it is more important to stay with peer group than to acquire knowledge. I just don’t understand them. Sorry. Rant over. I’ll go and read Linda’s answers again to put me in a better mood with some giggles.

  • Afternoon all,

Nice pic of mum and baby LInda.

Everyone else thanks for the chat.

This morning we went on a shopping mission to the local shops to give Lady Ps car a run as it has not been off the drive for about a week. All went well but lots of ice in shopping centre car park so not very nice for walking. No further snow here but lots of ice where snow has been compacted and then frozen. Temp 0.6c. Beginning to feel a bit restricted by the weather so I hope it gets a bit milder soon.

  • Good afternoon  Lindybird and thanks for the poem, made me smile and little Billy Whizz seems to be coping thus far.  Sorry you and OH have been below par for the past couple of days.  Hope you are both fully recovered.  Love the pic of Mum and Sweet Pea.  Would be nice if they can come home today.    When might you have the chance to see your grandson, hope this awful weather will not delay the first cuddle that you will be wanting of a precious baby boy.

OH and I woke up at 4 this morning for some reason and couldn't get back to sleep so we got up and made a cup of tea.  Bit of a shock to see how much snow we have.  There is over 5 inches now, would you believe I went out and stuck the ruler in to measure it.  Very unusual for Dorset to have so much snow and it is still snowing as I type.  OH left early for work and actually got to work faster then he does on a normal day becuase there was not much traffic on the roads.  Main roads slushy but where his office is was a bit icy.  I have suggested that perhaps he leaves early tonight before the snow is frozen.  I think it is going to be the coldest night ever here tonight.

When we got up we looked out of the kitchen window and Billy Whizz was eating and then had a big drink of milk which didn't freeze last night.  Haven't seen him since then, probably tucked himself away in the dry somewhere.

Bit of a game getting the bird food out this morning.  Had to brush the snow away from the garage door before I could get in these.  Have pilied the tray up with as much as I can and will make sure they have a good supply all through the day.  Haven't seen of them having a bath but it would be difficult as it is filled with snow.  Don't want ot put any water in it as I will have a terrible job defrosting.  I just hope they are getting the necessary liquid from the snow.

One of the main bus routes has stopped running, numerous schools are closed and there will be no bin collections until nest week.  As usual everything has just about ground to a halt.  Good job I went to the hairdressers on Tuesday and met my friend for lunch yesterday before all this snow arrived.  Don't know whether I am getting used to it but it didn't feel so cold when I was messing about in our garden sweeping myself a path and putting the bird feed out.  Yesterday when I came back from lunch I could not get warm and resorted to putting my dressing gown on over my clothes.  What a sight I must have looked with all the clothes I had on.  Removed the dressing gown before OH came in but he does know that I feel the cold terribly and his last words before leaving for work were "make sure you keep warm" and don't worry about the cost.  I will certainly do that but I do worry about some of older population who are too scared to put enough heating on as they are worried about the bills.  Sad in this day and age that this will happen but I would hope electricity companies will show some compassion for the elder generation while this weather lasts.  I am fortunate to get the heating allowance but it would certainly not be enough to cover the cost.  Just hope anyone will elderly neighbours will keep an eye on them.

To all who have posted do take care and keep warm.  I know the snow we have is nowhere near as much as some of you have so once again take care and only go out if you really have to.

  • Good afternoon DjoanS do take care when you are out with that bad back.  Pretty treacherous underfoot I should imagine.  I saw on the weather forecast that it might rain and that will really make travelling difficult, worries me terribily to think my OH may have a dreadful journey back from work tonight.  Told him to take his thick overcoat and wellies but he wouldn't hear of it.  Can be very stubborn at times.  I just thought if he did have to leave hs car somewhere and walk at least he would be warm and his feet would be dry.

  • Hello Lindybird so Baby Sweetpea has been named and what lovely names.  Can well believe Mum and Dad are shattered.  Hope you get to see Tomasz Adam soon.

  • ALICAT  sor sorry to hear about OH.  Hope it will pass soon.  You stay warm and safe too.  We have over 5 inches of snow in Poole this morning, have never seen it like this in the 20 years we have lived in this area.

  • 2 new visitors to the garden:

  • Hi all, will catch up later and post properly but just had to show you mug I sent for - quite pleased with it although my photo of it is a little blurred but you can see what it is like.

  • Alan, Lovely picture of your pied wagtails. Looks like an adult and a juvenile, first winter.

  • OG  what sort of puppies. Two pups at the same time seems like v hard work, but hope it all goes well. Bro in downstairs flat (1 of a 4plex) so think he will be ok. I am sure neighbour who helps with Mum will also have key so will make sure everything is fine.

  • hi MARGO keeping snug thanks (temp a max of -2 degrees so far today) hope you are too.  Hopefully time and patience will encourage Billy Whizz to make friends, but at least you know you are looking after him as best you can.

Into town this am though OH still suffering from a cold. Finished shopping for Mums Xmas pressie (courtesey of a wonderful Belgian choc shop in the Victorian Market) and a collect by car shop in Markies. then home via Tiso for coffee.
