Ah. Lovely to meet you, Lynette & Dibnlib. [Pics on previous week's thread.]

Gorgeous pics of snow Wendy, Alicat & Osprey. But I bet you are not thinking "lovely"!!! My nearest to snow was some grey slushy roadside stuff in Tasmania 40 years ago.

Tiger I think I have Gary’s puzzle solved. Alas I can only award you 2½ out of 5 on the brain teasers. I was being diabolical this week. Until Friday then . . .

Linda Successful shrunk pics. The walker’s seat - what a wonderful way to remember someone.

Oh no, Auntie, minus temps already.

Alan Love your intermittent "busy pics", the shivery one, the dreaded leaf blower & the migration.

A bit shivery here today, expecting 20 C max again. I’m not complaining. A quiet day for me. Yesterday I helped Dau2 washing, wiping, cleaning, etc as per her list. G-kids did minimum possible. Brats. After lunch Dau & Sil went shopping while I guarded the fort. I think they were out longer than necessary but I don’t begrudge them that. The brats are really rude & unhelpful. GS greeted me with "what are you doing here?" Hello and nice to see you too! They spoke to their mother on Skype - what a lot of complaining & false info. Grumbling that Sil put passwords on computers. Well Miss14 did abuse the privilege. She is proud of doing badly in final exams. Alas these days kids don’t repeat a year at school. It seems it is more important to stay with peer group than to acquire knowledge. I just don’t understand them. Sorry. Rant over. I’ll go and read Linda’s answers again to put me in a better mood with some giggles.

  • Good Morning to ALL. We have a very thin covering of snow to greet us this morning.

Linda,  Seems very unfair to allow different sized teams in your quiz, so very well done. The ones we take part in, insist that all the teams are of the same size. Holiday photographs are not boring, but they do make me feel like wanting to jump on a plane to warmer climes.

Wendy/ Osprey, I hope the snow stops falling for you. That is just too much to have to cope with.

Alan, Loved your latest animations. Very funny.

Terry, Your music weeekend sounded most enjoyable. You must be so gifted to have mastered the trombone so quickly.

AQ, Oh what I would give for your cooler days. 20c would be very welcome here. Thanks for the computer related conversations. Brilliant.

I must go shopping before the forecast heavier snow arrives as the gritters never seem to visit around here.

  • Morning all ... amazing to wake up this morning to .... a thaw!!! Overnight temps must have been above freezing, and although there is quite a bit of snow lying it is still melting. I hope it doesn't freeze or conditions will be treacherous. I took some pics in the garden first thing yesterday morning ... unusual scenes for us here at the coast ...

Linda - great Monday Smiles as usual ... Sweetpea is waiting for warmer weather I see! Love your holiday pics.

TerryM - what a lovely way to spend a weekend ... playing music.

    Alan - great animations!

Osprey - love the robin pic ... more please :-)

AQ - lovely rose pic ... just the thing for this wintry weather of ours. Sorry to hear about the teen misbehaviour ... ungrateful creatures. Love the computer problem quotes!

Must go and check the snow outside the conservatory door ... its been sliding off the roof and blocking the door :-((   The good thing about being confined to the house is that I finished writing all the Christmas cards ... and the letters to go in with some of them ... so feeling very virtuous this morning!

    Take care and stay safe.

  • Hi From the Highlands: I think we are now cut off from the real world as the Glenshee snow gates are down and the A9 closed at Dunblane and I gather all quiet north of that as no one can move because of the jack knifed lorries. We do rely on the A9 for everything really as all the big supermarkets use it to bring supplies to our stores. It is equivilant to a motorway but from Perth to Wick around 214 miles of road there are very few pieces of dual carriagway instead of the scottish government upgrading any of it the opted to put trams back into the capital. That has been a total disaster years behind and a like the parliament building the costs are just out of control.

No snow overnight but minus quite a bit I know not what...bright and sunny praying that it stays like that all day.

Not going out supplies are still good so not worth the risk but I am missing the feel of a real newspaper.

To all those out and about keep safe and keep warm. Please keep the jokes and funny pictures coming as they are a real pick me up and a good excuse not to do housework.

  • Morning all,

Thanks for all the snow pics. Amazing amount in some areas.

AQ : Thanks for the picture of the rose, very cheerful on a day like this.

Linda : Thanks for the holiday pics and the monday smiles. I can appreciate some of those ideas. LOL

Wendyb : Sorry to hear you are cut off but glad you have plenty of supplies.

More light snowfall his morning. Nothing major but it still has nuisance value. current temp 0,2c.

Off to clear the snow. I will leave my assistant to look after the computer:

  • Hi Wendy - good idea not to go out unless you have to.  I'm just having a coffee break (hot chocolate!)  & trying to catch up with reading back on here - replies later, as I'm supposed to be wrapping Christmas pressies & finishing the cards....

here is another funny pic to cheer you up, Wendy:

(& no, I dont know whose dog it is!)

ps.   Love your assistant, Alan !!  has he got a bird brain, or a feather in his cap for his diploma?

  • Good Morning All, some more snow shot that i took

  • Nice pics, Alicat!  Keep warm!

Thanks lindybird, will do not taking casper out today we took him yesterday it was too deep for him had too carry him in the end ,I take it sweet pea has put in an appearance in,don't blame him/her staying were its nice and warm

  • Good afternoon all and I have just muttered something I can't say here.  I had done a really long post and don' t what happened but it disappeared just as I was coming to the end of my ramblings.  Good job I have written things down otherwise I would not remember what I had typed.

Lot to catch up on as I did not post yesterday.  OH's birthday so thought I should be with him.

ChloeB I am absolutely delighted with the countdown clock.  Now I can have a peek everyday getting more and more excited about the big event.  Thanks so much.

Osprey thanks for the pics of the snow scenes and I love that robin.  His little chest look so bright.

DjoanS thanks for you pics of the snow.  It seems as though there are not many now who have had some snow.  The nearest snow to us was Dorchester which is not far down the road from me.

Brenda H sorry to read you have a bad back, hope it will improve for you.  We never go to London in the car.  OH not used to London traffic so we always go by coach as National Express do "fun fares" and on Saturday it only cost £8 return for the two us which is a bit of a bargain really.  I find the coaches warmer than the trains and of course you always get a seat.

dibnlib thinking of you in this snowy weather and hoping you won't have to go out too much as I imagine for some it is very treacherous what with the snow and then the hard frosts on top.  Denise van Outen played the part of the hairdresser in Legally Blonde and I have to say she was excellent.  Having said that the whole cast were top notch.  A really lively show with lots of dancing and singing, what I would call a happy show.

Lindybird thanks for the holiday pics, bet you could do with some of that sun and warmth now.  Loved the pic of the yorkie strapped in the safety seat fast asleep, really cute.  Thanks also for the Monday Smiles.  I was sure I was going to log on today and Sweet Pea would have arrived.  Definitely not ready to arrive in this harsh weather and stopping where it is warm.  It must be difficult for you and of course the parents to be with the waiting.

WendyB the snow pics are lovely.  Nice to look at but making it really difficult for people to get around.  I have just heard that there 3,000 or more people who have no electricity.  It hardly bears thinking about but I guess people in Scotland are used to it and a lot harder than us in the South.  Will let you know when we have booked the flight for Inverness as I think this would be a much better way for me to go.

SheilaFE apologies for asking but was it you I spoke to earlier this year about LG.  I have a phone number but not sure if I have the right Sheila so to speak.  I am really looking forward to it and will certainly ask for any tips from you.

ALICAT thanks for you snow pics, looks very pretty but for me best viewed from indoors.

Alan  another gorgeous pic of Hamish and I love all your animations.

Lynette so nice to see another face.  Perhaps I will be brave and ask OH (when he has time) to put one of me on.  Liked your capture shots of Loch of the Lowes.  I see on the blog that Peter is not able to get up there because of all the snow they have.  Hope the birds and ducks manage to find food for themselves as they must be missing the feast that is usually out for them.

Sorrry I couldn't reply to everyone individually but hope you are all coping in these extreme weather conditions.

It took me about 2 hours to get the bird baths defrosted this morning and I have decided now to empty them when all the birds go to roost to save that job in the morning.  I am always up before they arrive in the morning so I will fill them again then.  So far today I have refilled the trays with food 3 times.  They are really hungry and even OH is checking with me that I am giving them enough to eat even though it means I will have to buy more tomorrow.  Have seen the starlings and sparrows in and out of the baths all morning and watching them makes me shiver.

We had a good day out in London but it was so cold.  We thought it was cold here in Poole but we got a real shock when we left the coach at Victoria, it was even colder.  We had nearly 2 hours before the show (which we enjoyed very much so sort of did a pub crawl.  I was having something I have not had for years and that was whiskey macs (I think that is how it is spelt) as OH's Mum had recommended them as a warming drink.  I think in total I had 4 but I was warm and we did have an excellent meal  meal in a very nice restaurant in the Strand called TJ's.  We both had a starter, mine prawns and OH roasted brie. For the main course we both had belly pork with the best crackling I think we have ever had.  No room for a sweet and just finished off with a coffee.  Savoy Theatre just a few minutes walk from the restuarant so didn't get cold again.  Show finished just after 10 and we made our way back to Victoria Coach Station where I had my 5th and final whiskey mac.  Arrived back in Poole at 2.30 and got to bed just after 3.  Long day but we enjoyed it.  We are off to London again next Sunday to see the Vererants Tournement at the Albert Hall.  This will be the third time we have been and it has always been a cold day when we got there as well.

Must say I really think "Widdi" should go now.  I didn't think Patsy was the worst dancer by any means.  Gavin was pretty awful and would have thought he would be in the last two.  "Widdi" no longer amuses me and in fact I find it all quite embarassing.

OH is away all night as he is going to see The Fall (yet again" in Exeter.  I am a bit worried about the driving he has to to.  Hoping the roads will have been gritted if they needed it and keeping my fingers crossed there will not be snow.  I see on the news that West Cornwall has had some snow which is causing problems.  I have asked OH if he gets on his way and it starts to snow to think about turning round and coming back.

Little "Billy Whizz" seems to be coping and I am making sure there is plenty of food and milk out for him.  Even the milk froze over last night.  When we came home in the early hours of Sunday morning he was fast asleep in our drive.  Was a bit worried when I first saw him as he wasn't moving but of course as soon as I appeared he scuttled off.

OH went out yesterday and got a new continental quilt as I had been feeling a bit chilly at night.  Got a duck down one and it was pure luxury with the warmth.

Think I had better stop now as I have rambled on enough.  Please take care of yourselves in these wintry conditions and also keep warm.  Have t go out tomorrow so another reason I don't want snow.  Have to have some curls and waves put in my hair as I was not blessed like my 2 sisters with any waves or curls.
