Morning/evening all: Off to catch up on today's posts.

  • Sorry Brenda for mixing you up with Berwick.  I must look back.  Perhaps it was joan?

Tiger I do like the bird watcher!

Excellent tennis - toilet break at present!

  • SheilaFE: Hope my stories don't get too boring...I have a bottle of Welsh whisky but not opened it. Their joke is they can't make a blend as they only have one didtillery in Wales. The stills up here can make anything gin or vodka. The stills at Glenmorangie are tallest stills in Scotland and they used to be gin stills.

Your situation sounds similar to mine 2 miles from a shop, septic tank no mains gas but we are electric and oil and my pride and joy is my woodburner. When it is in full flow I can open all the doors of the cottage and the radiators shut down. Just have to make sure that the woodstore is full of nice dry hard wood. Managed to neatly stack 9tons this year so no probs there. Water comes from the hills and it tastes amazing..seriously.

  • -- is that a toilet break for you, the players, or both, Sheila???!!

Love Tiger's Birdwatcher!  how great is that?? !  - hope you enjoy your new keyboard & mouse, Tiger.

  • Thank you Sheila re Margo's countdown, glad you approve :)

Tiger I really love that birdwatcher ani :)

  • Hi Wendy - we crossed just now.  My good friends have just installed a woodburner in their period cottage, and it looks very nice - I thought it was sad to take out the open fire which roared merrily in the hearth, but they say that as the woodburner is filling up the whole of the fireplace, there are now no draughts from the chimney.  The woodburner is very neat, and I  look forward to sitting by it when visiting!

Alan:  Love the shivering and leafblower icons!!

Sorry its so cold for auntie - and by the way, I'm another one who was enchanted by your description of the fox who brushed his tail across the sky!

Don't think I said Welcome to Eagle-eye - you have an amazing wife there!  Look forward to hearing more from you.

Thanks to Wendy for the snowy pics - more please!  love 'em.

Sorry to hear that Brenda has a bad back - I know what you mean, you feel fine when doing extra stuff in the garden, but its later that your back complains.....

Chloe:  I enjoyed the story about the lighthouse, on the 'Coast' programme, caught that when the series was shown before, they seem to be repeating it now but don't mind catching some of them again, they are such good programmes.

Those are cold looking pics in your garden Alicat!

  • I see you are still around Linda, so no baby news yet.

I forgot to say that our snow lasted for all of 2mins. and we had a flash weather warning ! I presume it fell somewhere.

  • Morning all: Well, first thing, had to call ISP Tech Support coz couldn't get online. Reset modem and took eons to sort itself out; now lights are flashing and I'm very suspicious it will go out again or that I'll type all this and then it will disappear into the ethernet.  Have just put in first of five loads of laundry and fully expect washing machine to blow up.  Ten minutes later: OK, modem went down; had to reboot. All hit and miss this a.m.  (Large fllat screen telly still not working but washing machine okay so far.)  Was planning to Skype sister in UK to see new nephew tomorrow but apart from computer problems, we may not be able to do it since they now have snow in Lincolnshire and kids may not make the long drive from Milton Keynes.

Lindybird: Can imagine how antsy you must be waiting for Sweetpea!

WendyB: Oh my. That snow is impressive.   Hope you enjoy watching the truck get free - maybe you could hit the Fast Forward on your remote to speed them up?  Maybe plan a month in NZ with friend next year? :-)  Really do envy you that wonderful clean water!

Alan: That cold eh?  :-)    Oh no, it's Gary with his leafblower!

Tiger: I have a wireless mouse and love it!  (Now, if I just had a computer that worked......)  Would be fascinated to taste one of your fajitas to see how it compares with what we get here.  Oh you are organized when it comes to Christmas cards.  Oh I got your puzzle for Gary right away!

Oh wow. I see the guys are into animations today.  :-)

Chloe: I have a question for you re wireless printers. I have one too, but every now and then when I'm moving the cursor around a page it'll somehow connect with a "print" command even when I haven't clicked on anything and my printer leaps into life. Well, not really since it's slow and I always have time to cancel the job. But does anything like that happen to you?

SheilaF: Hmm. That's interesting about baby oil; wouldn't it scorch near an open flame?  And doesn't it make your coffee maker slippery?  (My sister used to use it to get a tan going faster!)

OK. I'm not going to press my luck and signing off. Must have breakfast and clean up so I can head to Best Buy with all my malfunction devices.  Then I'm going to the library, the rose garden and the gym.  Wish me luck folks!

  • I shouldn't be on here, really, but am so excited by the fact that I'm getting to grips with reducing the size of some of my photos, which means I can now show you some I have had for ages...

This is another one from the series taken this late summer, of the walk above the hills behind Macclesfield, Cheshire - its called "Teggs Nose" and is somewhere mentioned in very ancient  writings.  This is the seat built by cutting into the hillside, to give a welcome rest to walkers.  It is a memorial to a girl called Fiona, who sadly died young and must have loved the area, I think, for her family to have left this here.in her memory. At the back, you can just see the inscription which is the quotation from the famous poem, "Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth..."

Oh darn, it -- just off to see why it wont work.....

  • Same bench...more snow!!
