Morning/evening all: Off to catch up on today's posts.

  • Morning all ... another 3 or 4 inches of snow here overnight and frequent snow showers so far this morning. No wind though, so its not unbearably cold!

Wendyb - fabulous photographs ... just glad its not that bad here :-)

Linda - no Sweetpea yet I see ... my prediction of today just before noon won't be right then!! Loved your answers to AQ's quiz ... very funny

Annette - sorry about your 'electrical annoyances' ... can be so infuriating!

Lynette - nice to 'see' you!

Alan - gorgeous pic of Hamish ... he looks so cute and cuddly! Like the cold shivering person!

My first Christmas card arrived a couple of weeks ago, but it was from my cousin in Canada. It came with a calendar for 2011 which had extra months for November & December 2010 ... so there was an excuse for being so early!

I spent ages earlier watching a huge, male skemmie at the ground feeder tray. He was repelling all boarders, including 2 magpies and 6 jackdaws. Normally the skemmies give way to them, but not this one!

Must go and do useful things around the house!

Take care ... and stay safe.

  • Good Morning to you ALL. Frosty morning but still dry. We are promised snow by lunch time along the South coast. I hope Margo is able to get away from Poole as they looked as though their roads are bad this morning with snow and icy roads with more snow forecast. Could be a diffiicult drive home for them tonight. We should have driven over to Kent this morning, but I seem to have hurt my back, where it feels as if I have a ' live nerve' which brings me to a halt. We have been doing a lot of gardening and leaf clearing, so I presume I must have done something.

Alicat, Lovely photographs of yourself, but I do prefer the sober one. Also a lovely one of Lynette on your WA. It is so nice to meet you both in ' the flesh'.

Wendy, Super photographs but you are getting plenty of snow. It looks extremely deep.

It is just starting to snow here.

  • Brenda H: Pretty deep it has snowed every night since Tuesday and quite a bit during the day and it is still snowing.O H out on snow clearing duties first tthe path then the drive and eventually some from the cottage roof and clear the gutters. We all got caught as it back up in the gutters and froze as this stayed frozen when the snow melted it backed under guttering and into everyones houses. We were lucky not too much damage but houses in Grantown were ruined.

I will get the snow off the roof of MY shed as we nearly lost that last winter with weight of the snow.

  • Joan, I was not familiar with the name, skemmie so I had to look it up.  It says; a pigeon or feral rock dove. I have learnt something else today. Your snow must be very deep now. I have been looking at the TV and it looks very dangerous. Do take care.

  • Brenda H - our snow is not too bad here at the coast. Fortunately, the sun came out yesterday afternoon and melted some of the lying snow. I think inland they have it very bad ... but I'm not venturing out to find out though!

  • Morning ALL. No snow in my part of Cheshire, just frosty so far.

Wonderful pics Wendy. The snow looks so pretty but I don't envy you one bit!

Joan, sorry, I meant to comment on your snow photo but forgot. Looks great with the snow coming down thick and fast.

Alan I liked the shivering 'thingy' too :)

  • "That reminds me of the Eddystone lighthouse which has had a number of reincarnations. The first one was built by Henry Winstanley and first lit on 14 November 1898. People expressed doubts about this structure but Winstanley had no doubts. He said I would happily be in it in the greatest ever storm. Well he had his wish because he rowed out there on November 25th 1703 and on 27th November the lighthouse was swept away in the great storm on 27th November.

Neil Oliver relates this story on Coast broadcast last Saturday at 7.30pm.  View at  coast. You got to be quick as it is only around for about another 17 hours."

Tiger, thanks for the above info. I watched the bit on the Eddystone lighthouse in your 'Coast' link this morning. It was really interesting and well worth a watch. If anyone wants to see it then better be quick before it disappears. The lighthouse footage is right near the end from around 13mins onwards.

  • Afternoon All thanks for the coments of my pictures here is one i took this morning of a very winterery scene its taken in my garden

  • And here is one more i took this morning

  • I am sitting her using my new wireless keyboard and mouse. If you have not got one then think about it seriously as it transforms the surfing experience.  I cannot imagine why I waited so long to get one.

Yesterday I got caught up in what seemed like the biggest traffic jam of my life. It was at Brent Coss. Apparently a car caught fire on North Circular near Hanger Lane and everything was chaos for hours after.

I eventually got to Staples Corner and whiled the time away by browsing the shops and having a chicken  fajita in Chiquito the Mexican restaurant there.  By that time the traffic had cleared and I bought my new keyboard and mouse, and made my way home.

BTW I wrote my first Christmas cards yesterday. Those going to Australia and the USA are always first!

The hard part about Christmas cards is the names and addresses. I finally solved this problem two years ago by buying a Dymo printer. This is a printer which can print one label at a time. I have my database of names and addresses and then can print the labels, The list from last year is copied to this year and then modified! This label printer is worth its weight in gold.

Talking of Nova Scotia, we have our very own Nova Scotia representative here on the board.

Lindybird   Waiting is not nice is it? I try to combine waiting with tasks that take a long time. Thus things tidying up or filing are good at passing the time. They also get the job done.

Wendyb   Love the snow pictures. It looks so idyllic when it is like that.

Chloeb   Glad you watched the bit about the Eddystone lighthouse on Coast. Neil Oliver is a very good presenter. I like the way he conveys his own enthusiasism.

Alicat  It seems as if the snow is just beginning for you.

Gary     A puzzle all for yourself.
