Morning/evening all: Off to catch up on today's posts.

  • Well back from excursion into Elgin and it is still snowing. No snow in Elgin and I saw 3 snow ploughs our road has not been touched ..the first bit is council and very dangerous our bit is looked after by the 'still and it is 40 ton barley lorry afternoon and they have just cleared and gritted. OH did hospital and I did Tesco's and M and S. Just newly in from knocking snow off garage roof it stops it coming off in one whoosh and bringing guttering with it. Tennis is on looking a bit closer than some but Rafa looks as though he has either just got up or he is going to fancy dress party later. Bring back white clothes and green floors.

Tiger: Thanks for date reminder...I was on Lundy was allowed to go on my own as it is my special place. Most of the visitors got up early and took the Oldenburg to Padstow...not me I hate the boat and it went very early so a few of us stayed on the Island. I went up the lighthouse (old avatar) and in those days you could go outside. Very very lucky as I managed some photos (point and press stuff) as there was quite a good view...this was because the wind was blowing quite hard over the island and split the clouds up. Went eerily cold and as no lighting the sheep started to make their way home. Then we all met up and went to the pub.

Margobird: That is OK offer is openended...Southampton is Easter Airways to Aberdeen geared to oil industry and quite pricey. OH uses that route but his company pays for it and I am not sure you will get much joy from Bournemouth. Horsey picture was when he was competing at Lulworth. Have a good weekend.

Didnlib:  Of course I don't mind I am 8 miles south of Aberlour and 10 miles north of Grantown and if you look at a map of the speyside way you will see a bridge over the river at Ballindalloch and we are just south of the bridge at Cragganmore not far from the distillery of that name...a real cutie of a distillery not anything like the big factories that are around.

I would love the weather to get better for the weekend as to celebrate St Andrews day a lot of the usual places are opening their doors for free for 4 days....Fort George would be my firts choice as the view of the firth is amazing.

P.S.Tiger Pretty sure I won't be around for the next one either

  • Morning all:  A quick hallo before I zoom off for the day. They call it Black Friday here - the day after Thanksgiving when the unofficial Christmas shopping rush starts and when stores open at - wait for it - 3, 4, and 5 a.m. to lure loony shoppers and insomniacs with fab bargains.  It's capitalism gone mad and so not-Christmas-spirity!    Sympathies to folks who have to deal with snow.   Our old cook top was ceramic; new one is stainless steel, which tends to show every last splatter of grease but cleans up easily enough.  Put up another feeder yesterday coz the mourning doves aren't happy with placement of one outside OH's 'office' window and sit on the fence looking longingly but not getting much while the little birds hog it.  The new one is under the remaining orange tree, but so far nobody's found it.  Have tried to give discreet directions to doves, but they just look at me dolefully.

ChloeB: Do admire your persistence in learning how to do stuff on the web. I sometimes Google questions or go to the Dell users forum, but then I can't find what I want, don't understand what I've found, or print it out and plan to read it later, but don't.  And if I ask a question on a forum, I never can't figure out where the answer, if any, is.  Simply don't have the patience; would much rather be out pulling weeds or pruning roses.

dibnlib: Oh dear. I remember the Grand National - that's the big race where they leap over fences and water jumps, etc?  Was just reading something on the Guardian site four horses died in the three-week meet this year.  Can't stand to watch that kind of stuff; not like show jumping, which seems so much more restrained.  We had a marvellous horse - I think it was Barbaro -  that got horribly injured in a regular race here in the last couple of years and the video was sickening. They spent millions trying to save the horse but it had to be put down after months and months of therapy.

jsb: I can't offer any help in setting up stat data, but I'm sure everyone appreciates your efforts to keep the rest of us in the know.

Djoan: Lovely pix of waves (and your garden)  We don't see those kinds of waves too often here in SoCal but it gets pretty wild up north.  Here, when there's a 'high surf warning' people rush to the ocean to see the waves; some idiots even go out on the breakwater.  If anyone's ever seen photos of Maverick's, in Northern California, the waves there are massive at times - the super surfers go there for an annual competition. You have to be towed out by watercraft thingies coz there's no hope of paddling in that kind of water.  There's a live cam at Mavericks (it's down right now) but if you look under Google images, you'll get an idea of the size.

OG: Drives you crazy, doesn't it, seeing how some things get done? Hope you feel better after your rant, but feel free to let loose again. :-)  The road out to where we watched the whales is dirt and on University property. After a couple of winters of heavy rains, it was so full of gullies we had volunteers refusing to drive on it. Last year, I got so fed up with it I e-mailed the president of the university asking when it was supposed to be surfaced properly (this after two years of rumors to that effect). He sent my e-mail to the guy in charge of maintenance and lo and behold - two months later they did it. Can't claim any responsibility, but it got done finally.   Then, Highway 101 through Santa Barbara has been a disaster since it's the only northbound route to the coastal towns between here and San Francisco and thus a big truck route. It's been full of potholes and ruts for years and years and this last couple of months, after all kinds of public outcries, they finally started resurfacing it.  Now we can drive through town without having our teeth knocked out.  I think there's been some complaining though about an out-of-town contractor who won the bid.  Tell OH that most people don't expect lots of news in a card; that it's okay to just write something short and know they'll get the gist of it.

Oops. Sorry osprey, didn't realize you were on here too!  What's all this about Christmas Cards eh? :-)  I'm sure some folks got through the snow to your friend's funeral and you were with them in spirit obviously.

Alicat: Too much drink on your birthday? There's no such thing. (Very sexy bra though!)  :-)  Aha! Sober and in charge of a stroller with cute little Casper.  And yes, it's August according to the date stamp - we do thinks backward here and I thought it was January, whic h explained the gray skies.... but not, an English summer day....

Margobird:  Enjoy London outing.  That stint at LG next year is going to keep a smile on your face for - oooh - about six months.

Alan: Hamish is no fool - he looks extra cuddly in that photo.

Wendy: Suggest you give serious thought to hijacking a plough. Watch out for that guttering.

OK, I'm off. Take care all.

  • Thanks Linda :) LOL I laughed at your answers to the brainteasers too. So funny! :)))

Apart from 5S in the SC, which I should have right, I just haven't the foggiest this week so I think we will stick with yours :)

LOL Annette, I know what you mean. Each to his/her own.

Alan: A certain online film rental company*, no advertising allowed, ahem!, has Thunderbird episode 1 free on demand, provided you have a membership package.

    * Think not 'lovebird', but love????. Where would we be without a little humour.

    JSB : I couldn't agree more. FAB
